(KGTV) - California Highway Patrol officers opened fire, fatally shooting a suspect after a chase that began in Orange County ended in Chula Vista, the agency said.The chase started just before midnight when, for an unknown reason, Santa Ana Police attempted a traffic stop.The pursuit continued through San Diego County until coming to an end near I-805 south and East Orange Avenue around 1:30 a.m.At some point, CHP says officers opened fire on the suspect, who was later pronounced dead at the hospital. CHP did not say whether the driver was armed or whether there was anyone else in the vehicle.No CHP officers were hit, the agency confirmed. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, all lanes of the southbound 805 near Orange Avenue remain closed due to the investigation. (KGTV) - Chula Vista Police on Wednesday identified the man stabbed to death in what officers described as a road rage incident.Horace Williams, 36, was involved in the fight with 60-year-old Rickey Smith on Sweetwater Road Tuesday, police said.Witnesses told police Smith was following Williams’ van as the two yelled at each other. Smith’s pickup struck the van from behind, then Smith pulled in front of the van and stopped abruptly, witnesses said. Witnesses said he was wearing his uniform at the time of the incident.“This report is deeply disturbing. (KGTV) - A nurse is calling her co-workers guardian angels after they saved her life.Early Borja is nurse a Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center and had quite a medical episode over the summer.Borja was in the car with her husband in July when she suffered what she thought was an asthma attack. It became more serious when she lost consciousness. Her husband drove her to the emergency room at Sharp Chula Vista, where a team of nurses, respiratory therapists and Dr. Nyda Pamintuan saved her life. Borja was revived and a few days later she was discharged from the hospital.On Thursday, she met the team that helped bring her back and also presented the doctor who led the effort with the Guardian Angel award.“I’m back alive working because of you,” said Borja through tears as she thanked the team.Borja has worked at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center for 27-years. 897

Forgive our sin," Hodges said during the group prayer.The people were rallying against a program that calls for drag queens to read to children. Drag Queen Story Hour is scheduled to start Tuesday at the Chula Vista Civic Center Library. At the rally, those opposing the program said it would harm a child's growth and development. They also demanded public hearings."If there are parents that want drag queens to come read books to their children, they have that right. They're the parents, we're not protesting their right," said Hodges. "But they should do that privately, on their own time, in their own place, on their own dollar."Supporters say the program promotes tolerance and acceptance. Chula Vista Mayor Mary Salas called it "preposterous" to have a City Council vote for a one-hour reading program, which she said would not be canceled. "The City of Chula Vista is proud to celebrate the diversity of our community in all of our programs," Salas said in a statement. Early that morning, he was at the hospital getting an injection for a medical condition. Though he had some food afterward, his lunch period at Eastlake Middle School wasn't for another six hours."It's recommended they have something in their stomachs if they're getting injected with this medication," said Escobedo.RELATED: Parents concerned with short lunch times at San Diego Unified schoolsAfter Escobedo dropped him off at school, she discovered that Danny - for the first time ever - left his lunch in the car. Escobedo declined, as Danny has food sensitivities."As a mom, I just felt so frustrated. Are you kidding me? A spokesperson says the policy is spelled out in the school handbook. The years-old policy came about because too many lunch drop-offs ended up sapping school resources and creating concerns about food spoilage. The district says there are exceptions - including medical reasons - but in this case, Escobedo didn't bring up the health issues, which she says is not true. She says staff should be trained to know the policy and any exceptions."As a mom you just want to do what's best for your child," said Escobedo.The district spokesperson tells 10News:"the front office staff will make an exception based on the situation and only on a limited basis ... the staff members who spoke with the parent said that they offered to call the student out of class so that they could give the student their lunch. The parent did not seem pleased with the responses she was being given and left. Had the parent asked for more clarification, or asked to speak with a school administrator, we could have very easily resolved this matter. Our staff also said that the parent made no mention of health/dietary issues, because again, this would have enabled staff to make an exception in this case.Nutrition is vital to student success which is why we offer a variety of options and all of them healthy and meet state nutritional guidelines. Even if a student does not have an active account, our school never deny a student a meal and the meals we provide would be the same as for a student with an active account ... If parents do have a medical/dietary concern, we ask that they let us know.
