INDIANAPOLIS — The driver of a tanker truck was critically injured after his truck crashed and exploded Thursday afternoon on an interstate ramp on the east side of Indianapolis.Indianapolis Fire Department public information officer Rita Reith said the tanker was hauling 4,000 gallons of jet fuel when it overturned before 2 p.m. Thursday on the ramp leading from Interstate 465 southbound to Interstate 70 eastbound. The tanker truck driver, Jeffrey Denman, 59, of Brownsburg, suffered significant burns and was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.I-70 and I-465 were closed for hours following the crash, and the ramp will be shut down while repairs are made, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.Indiana State Police reported investigators believe unsafe speed contributed to the crash.Reith said the crash split the tank and overturned the semi, causing the fire to break out. Juan Rodriguez's 1-year-old twins died after being left in a hot car for eight hours. Thursday morning, he is expected to appear in court to face charges in connection with their deaths.Rodriguez's twins, Luna and Phoenix, were found Friday unresponsive in the back seat of a Honda sedan in the Bronx, according to a news release from the New York Police Department. Rodriguez was at work at a nearby VA hospital, where he is a social worker, his friend Temple Barros told CNN.Temperatures that Friday reached highs in the mid-80s, according to the National Weather Service. Joe Biden has formally clinched the Democratic presidential nomination, setting him up for a bruising challenge to President Donald Trump that will play out against the unprecedented backdrop of a pandemic, economic collapse and civil unrest. The former vice president has effectively been his party’s leader since his last challenger in the Democratic primary, Bernie Sanders, ended his campaign in April. But Biden pulled together the 1,991 delegates needed to become the nominee after seven states and the District of Columbia held presidential primaries Tuesday. Biden reached the threshold three days after the primaries because several states, overwhelmed by huge increases in mail ballots, took days to tabulate results.Heading into Super Tuesday, Biden was the underdog. He lost contests in Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada and was struggling to fundraise. Then, Biden scored a huge win in South Carolina on February 29, thanks in large part to endorsements and support from prominent black Democrats in the state. Following the South Carolina race, opponents Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar dropped out of the race and endorsed Biden. It took a few hours for the news to be released, but by all indications, Ryan Newman is okay. NASCAR officials said Newman had non life-threatening injuries following a horrific crash at the end of the Daytona 500 on Monday.Newman is in serious condition after being transported to the hospital. As Newman approached the finish line of the Daytona 500 on Monday, he was set to win his first Daytona 500 in 12 years. But a nudge from behind sent Newman into the wall as his competitors crossed the finish line. The crash allowed Denny Hamlin to win his second straight Daytona 500. As Hamlin celebrated the win, attention quickly turned to Newman, whose car spun out of control and burst into flames. After Newman's car struck the wall and flipped, it was then struck at full speed by Corey LaJoie's vehicle, causing Newman's car to flip again. Emergency crews raced to rescue Newman following the stunning crash.The celebration for Hamlin was subdued following the race."I think we take for granted sometimes how safe the cars are," Hamlin said. "But No. 1, we're praying for Ryan. Worked really well with Ryan through this whole race, and obviously he got turned right there."Ryan Blaney, who came in second place, described his view of the incident. "We pushed Newman there to the lead, and then we got a push from the 11 (Danny Hamlin's car), and I made a move off 4 (Kevin Harvick's car) on Newman and he blocked it and I kind of went low and he blocked that, so then I was committed to just pushing him to the win and trying to have a Ford win it, and I don't know, we just got bumpers hooked up wrong and turned him," Blaney said. "I hope he's all right. Looked pretty good. Definitely was trying to push him to a win. I don't want to say those things happen.
