(KGTV) - The body of a San Diego Navy veteran reported missing was found in a Dallas suburb this week, and Texas investigators he had been dead for three years. Ronald Wayne White, 51, was a defense contractor who served on the USS Nimitz in the 1980s. He vanished in 2016. “My son would call me at least twice a month,” said White’s mother Doris Stevens told WFAA. “He would call me from Egypt. He would call me from the Philippines. An employee of the apartment complex went to the unit to discover why the tenant wasn’t using any water and found White’s body on the kitchen floor. "It is sadness....to see that a veteran, a decorated veteran, had to go out like this,” said Jerry Hannon, a friend of white. DeSoto Police said there was no sign of foul play. White had a month-to-month lease with the money automatically withdrawn from his account and his apartment was well-insulated, according to police. A 4-year-old girl was left alone inside a minivan overnight in a Milwaukee tow lot, Public Works Commissioner nominee Jeff Polenske said Tuesday at a news conference. Late Monday night, an impaired female driver was pulled over and arrested for an OWI when the vehicle was towed. Officers removed a 10-month-old child from the vehicle, but neglected to remove a 4-year-old girl from the backseat.Polenske said it wasn't until a tow lot employee heard the young girl crying that the girl was removed. Officials towed the car to the lot on around 12:30 a.m. The child was not discovered until around 8:30 a.m. Upon discovery, the child was checked by fire officials for immediate harm and later transported to the hospital for further review. Data from local meteorologists shows temperatures dipped as low as 19 degrees Monday night while the child was in the car.Milwaukee Public Works is reviewing more on the situation.   976

A 39-year-old mother was indicted in New Bedford, Massachusets on Thursday after authorities found 19 dead animals in her 13-year-old son's bedroom, the Standard-Times reported. According to the Standard-Times, police and animal control visited the home when it picked up a stray dog that was believed to belong to Amanda Vicente. When authorities arrived, they found 19 dead animals along with 17 living animals in 27 cages. Police told the Standard-Times that they found piles of feces in the kitchen and the house was in disarray.Authorities found dead lizards, hamsters, cockatiels and finches in the boy's room. The surviving animals were reportedly malnourished. Those animals have been taken to veterinary care. The child has been placed in the custody of relatives.Vicente was allowed to place bond, and will face a judge in December on child abuse and animal cruelty charges. 947

‘Tis the season for holiday travel! This Thanksgiving, air travel is expected to be busier than ever before.“We’re expecting an all-time high for 2018 Thanksgiving travel,” says Sharon Pinkerton, vice president of Airlines for America.U.S. airport officials say 30 million passengers are expected to travel through security checkpoints between Nov. 16 and Nov. 27. That’s up 5 percent from last year.“We want to ensure our passengers can get through our security systems quicker than they do in the past,” says David Pekoske, an administrator with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).To speed the process up, Pekoske says new technology is being put into more airports, including automated screening lanes and improved carry-on scanners.But there are things travelers should do, too, to ensure the security process moves as fast as possible.The biggest checkpoint hold-ups: packing prohibited carry-on items and forgetting things in your pockets.“My advice for PreCheck passengers is to just be patient,” Pekoske says.Even PreCheck passengers will be gambling with longer lines this holiday.“I’ve been in times where I want to get in the other line,” says traveler Dan Stagg, who has TSA PreCheck.Stagg says he’s already seeing the long lines, even for PreCheck travelers. But there is some good news.
