Five months ago, Brendan Bialy was sitting in his 12th-grade English class at a Colorado high school when a fellow student walked in late, holding a gun.Bialy, along with two other classmates, charged and disarmed the alleged shooter. After Castillo was shot, Bialy said he kept the gun away from the suspect and helped a teacher perform chest compressions on Castillo. But Castillo didn't respond.Jones was shot twice but lived. Bialy said that he "saw that benevolence won, legitimately and completely won in that situation." He added that joining the Marines helped him build on a moral foundation he knew he had because of how he reacted in the shooting.The moral foundation Bialy spoke of was the same character he showed during his training, his instructor said."I noticed through some events of training that his past kind of reflected on some things we had to do here: quick reaction, willingness to fight, his character really showed," said Staff Sgt. Boats were scattered among the piles of debris left by homes knocked off their foundations.But those trying to get a flight out of the airport will likely wait for hours or even days to evacuate.Help arrivesAs people waited to leave the island, search and rescue personnel arrived bringing body bags and coolers.Additional morticians, body bags and refrigerated coolers to store bodies are being brought in to Abaco and other affected areas, Sands told Guardian Radio 96.9 FM. Four morticians in Abaco embalmed remains because officials have run out of coolers, he said.Volunteers with cadaver dogs have arrived to help with the recovery process, Joy Jibrilu, director general of the country's tourism and aviation ministry, told CNN.She said those workers brought equipment which will help people on the island get an accurate count of the dead and understand the full extent of damage the archipelago suffered.But the first priority remain rescuing and evacuating the living, especially those who are elderly or unwell, Jibrilu said.Estimated death tolls have been "harrowing and deeply distressing," Jibrilu said. We can only see the reality of America's need by seeing it through the eyes of the threatened, oppressed, and disenfranchised.That is exactly where we now stand. Many doubt the justice of our country, and with good reason. Black people see the repeated violation of their rights without an urgent and adequate response from American institutions. We know that lasting justice will only come by peaceful means. Looting is not liberation, and destruction is not progress. But we also know that lasting peace in our communities requires truly equal justice. The rule of law ultimately depends on the fairness and legitimacy of the legal system. And achieving justice for all is the duty of all.This will require a consistent, courageous, and creative effort. We serve our neighbors best when we try to understand their experience. We love our neighbors as ourselves when we treat them as equals, in both protection and compassion. Former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the murder of Botham Jean.Guyger shot and killed Jean as he sat in his apartment on Sept. 6, 2018. Guyger lived in the same apartment complex at the time and said she mistakenly entered Jean's apartment, thinking it was hers.During the trial, Guyger testified that she entered the apartment with her gun drawn with the intent to "eliminate' what she thought was an intruder. Guyger's lawyers argued, "stand your ground" laws applied in the case.Guyger also apologized during the trial, saying she has asked God for forgiveness and regretted the incident."I wish he was the one with the gun and killed me," she said.
