House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., filed a request with the Joint Committee on the Library on Wednesday to remove 11 statues of Confederate leaders from the US Capitol.The statues are held in Statuary Hall, and is a prominent spot for visitors of the US Capitol. The hall is frequently seen in the background of media interviews with members of Congress.Each state sends two statues to be viewed in Statuary Hall. States largely decide on the statues to be displayed in the hall. Among the statues in Statuary Hall include Confederacy president Jefferson Davis and Confederate commander Robert E. Lee.“The statues in the Capitol should embody our highest ideals as Americans, expressing who we are and who we aspire to be as a nation,” Pelosi said in a letter to formalize her request. “Monuments to men who advocated cruelty and barbarism to achieve such a plainly racist end are a grotesque affront to these ideals. Their statues pay homage to hate, not heritage. They must be removed.“While I believe it is imperative that we never forget our history lest we repeat it, I also believe that there is no room for celebrating the violent bigotry of the men of the Confederacy in the hallowed halls of the United States Capitol or in places of honor across the country.”Pelosi’s sent her letter around the same time NASCAR announced that it is banning Confederate flags from be displayed at its race tracks. It would be devastating if I did,” Sutton says.That's why he got Ajax microchipped.  “I have a Social Security number on there for his microchip, and that's plugged into my phone and that’s registered in the database for him,” Sutton explains.    But now, there's a new way pet owners can keep track of their pets: facial recognition.The Finding Rover mobile app allows pet owners to upload a photo of their missing dog or cat. The app then scans a database of more than a million rescued or found animals that could be a to make a match.The founders of Finding Rover say the app is 98 percent accurate.Veterinarian Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald says with so many lost and stray animals, facial recognition for pets could be a huge asset. (KGTV) — A new initiative between California and Mexico officials could pave the way for solving the persistent issue of sewage flowing from Tijuana to the U.S.The sewage comes as runoff from the Tijuana River or as flow from the Punta Bandera treatment plant, leading to beach closures in Imperial Beach and Coronado. On Friday, officials from California and Mexico met in Imperial Beach to launch the California-Mexico Strategic Dialogue. The inaugural issue is to find solutions to stop the sewage from flowing into the U.S."While other leaders may use the border as an opportunity to distract and divide, we want to use this as an opportunity to convene and advance," said State Assemblyman Todd Gloria, a Democrat. Officials are reporting progress. Tijuana Councilman Manny Rodriguez said he and others just requested 300 million pesos, or about million dollars, to improve processing tanks at Punta Bandera."We need to focus more on treatment, and if we get the money for that, I think this problem can be fixed," Rodriguez said. Imperial Beach Mayor Serge Dedina said the International Boundary and Water Commission is installing an Earthen Dam in the Tijuana River channel to stop any accidental flows during the dry time of year. "That's a really good sign of little things that don't cost taxpayers any money that keep our beaches clean," Dedina said, adding that those kinds of short-term fixes should be a major part of the dialogue. 1480

(KGTV) — Mar Vista High School operated under heightened security Tuesday due to a possible threat.Instruction continued in classrooms but Mar Vista's doors were kept locked as part of the security measures, according to Manuel Rubio, public information officer with Sweetwater Union High School District.The campus resumed normal operations just before 1 p.m.The school district was working with the San Diego Sheriff's Department to investigate a possible threat posted to social media, Rubio said.The threat was later determined to be unfounded, though the campus would have increased security through the day, according to Rubio. 679

HUDSON, Ohio — A Hudson woman who hosted a large house party at a rental home in October was convicted in Municipal Court Tuesday for violating state health orders to prevent the spread of coronavirus.The woman was convicted of violations prohibited and criminal damaging, both second-degree misdemeanors, according to court records.On Oct. 10, the woman used a website to rent a home in the 6800 block of Windsor Road in Hudson, according to court records. More than 150 people attended the party, in excess of the number of people allowed by the mass gatherings order that limits groups to no more than 10 people.Attendees caused more than ,500 in damage to the property, according to court records.The Akron Beacon Journal reported that on the night of the party, police were called to the scene and multiple vehicles were towed throughout the night.
