MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexico is bracing for the possible arrival of the "mother of all caravans," even as doubts arise over whether the group of Central American migrants will be all that big.Interior Secretary Olga Sanchez Cordero has said a caravan of migrants from El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala could be forming."We have information that a new caravan is forming in Honduras, that they're calling 'the mother of all caravans,' and they are thinking it could have more than 20,000 people," Sanchez Cordero said Wednesday.But a WhatsApp group calling for people to gather Saturday in El Salvador to set off for Guatemala only has about 206 members.Activist Irineo Mujica, who has accompanied several caravans in Mexico, said reports about "the mother of all caravans" were false, claiming "this is information that (U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen) Nielsen is using to create fear."His group, Pueblo Sin Fronteras, said in a statement there was no evidence the new caravan would be that large, noting "there has never been a caravan of the size that Sanchez Cordero mentioned." Many of the thousands of migrants waiting to claim asylum are realizing their dream to live in America may be a tougher road than they imagined, especially following Sunday’s clash at the border, involving a group of migrants and U.S. officials.Conditions are horrid in one camp in the border city of Tijuana, Mexico, where people have been living in tents for weeks in a lot that once was a baseball complex. Many of them dream of starting a new live in the U.S., but those dreams are fading.Maria Elena Reyes waited in line for hours, hoping a volunteer may have a clean shirt. For her, these living conditions, and even the month-long journey from Honduras, all seemed worth it to get to the border. But that’s when she says she had hope of finding asylum in America.“To look for a better life, to help my grandchildren who are in Honduras and my daughters, and for myself,” Reyes says.But like others at the camp, her optimism seems to fade with each passing day in the tent city, especially after what happened Sunday, when U.S. border agents used tear gas on a group of migrants.“I would say after that incident, which was really bad, a lot of doors closed,” Reyes says.Already worn out from the long journey, many of these migrants are now fearful of the US, scared of what could happen at the border, even if they apply for asylum the legal way.Sarahi Nunes and her 3-year-old daughter, Genesis, thought getting into the US would be easier, but knowing there’s a months-long wait just for an official asylum appointment, makes her doubt whether she'll ever obtain her American dream.“Yes, at first, that was the plan,” Nunes says. “But now, I see how difficult it is for people asking for asylum.” She's already started the process of applying for a work visa to stay here, in Mexico. LOUISVILLE, Colo. – A woman in Louisville, Colordao died after she was struck by a falling tree branch during Tuesday’s windstorm, a spokesperson for the police department said Wednesday, making her death the first in the state caused by the near-hurricane winds.The woman, who has not been identified, stopped to rest under a tree while she was moving into an apartment in the area of Walnut Street and Garfield Avenue at around 2 p.m.The spokesperson said that’s when a large branch broke off due to the winds and struck her in the head.She was taken to a hospital, but it’s not clear when the woman died as the police department only learned of her passing on Wednesday.The Boulder County Coroner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy, but even though foul play is not suspected, detectives will be in attendance.The Boulder Daily Camera reports there were 89 mph wind gusts in Louisville, the highest recorded in Boulder County on Tuesday. 962
