Las Vegas-based KTNV spoke with people who spotted O.J. Simpson at The Cosmopolitan Wednesday. Simpson was thrown out of the hotel-casino after accusations of being drunk. According to two witnesses, Simpson wasn't seen drinking and was not being unruly."He was very nice, very cordial," said Michelle Messer.Simpson's lawyer, Malcolm LaVergne, told KTNV that the story about Simpson being drunk at The Cosmopolitan is completely untrue.LaVergne says that Simpson is a social drinker, meaning he usually orders one drink and sips on it while socializing, and that he was at the Cosmopolitan to eat chicken wings.LaVergne also told KTNV that the hotel-casino had apparently decided before Simpson's visit to trespass him from the property. LaVergne says that after Simpson was notified, he left the hotel-casino quietly.In addition, Simpson is challenging anyone with proof that he was drunk and belligerent to come forward. (KGTV) -- The Citizen Public Safety Oversight Task Force of La Mesa met Wednesday virtually, following two high-profile incidents involving the city's police department.The recently formed group is tasked with looking at whether La Mesa needs a police oversight committee and then decide what it will look like.The group's chair, Jamal McRae, realizes they are a temporary task force, but hopes it rolls over to become the permanent commission."We're still trying to educate ourselves as to what our committee will do, as far as, will be able to have subpoena power? Do we want subpoena power? We're still in the research phase." McRae said. "We're trying to determine whether we want to put this on a ballot to have individuals on the city vote on it, or if we wish the city council will just have the final say.McRae points out the idea for the task force came before the controversial incidents involving La Mesa police officers, and before the national calls for police reform following the death of George Floyd."We're a group of individual citizens that got together and wanted to make a change in the community after the Helix High School incident," McRae said. "So we have been running through some ideas for a few years, just among community members."McRae says the group understands the importance of their work and the urgency to complete their tasks. That's why they have scheduled three meetings next month. (KGTV) - The J Company is telling the story of America's founding fathers, with a twist.This spring, they're staging the classic musical 1776 with an all-female cast."We need to support our young women and let them know they can be anything and anybody they want to be if they just put their minds to it," says director Joey Landwehr, who came up with the idea of casting only young women in roles portraying men.The musical tells the story of John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin and the rest of the Continental Congress as they debated the merits of breaking free from England during the Revolutionary War. Some of the actors say they see the relevance to today's political climate in the story."Even though I know I'm pretty set on my political views, I do understand that other people have their own and that we need to find that middle ground," says Camille Le Saux, who will play Ben Franklin in the show. "That's what this play tends to focus on, and I think that's very relevant today."Others say it's empowering to see young women playing strong, influential men."It's showing that women can be powerful and women can be strong, and women can be angry and upset and passionate," says Caroline Egler. She's playing John Adams, a role she's wanted to tackle since she first learned of the show in 8th grade."Reading through the script again, I realized how beautiful it is and how human it is," Egler says.Rehearsals began this week at the Lawrence Family JCC in La Jolla. (KGTV) -- The family of a La Mesa woman says their mother in a medically induced coma after getting shot with a projectile that lodged between her eyes.Leslie Furcron was among thousands of people protesting Saturday night in front of the La Mesa Police Department. She was recording on Facebook Live. You can hear her yelling, then the phone drops, and the screen goes black."She was brutally attacked on a peaceful protest. If I commit a crime. I'm going to jail, no if's and or buts about it," said one of her sons, Ahmed Furcron.He says bystanders rushed her to the hospital. Her prognosis is unclear, but the family says she may lose an eye.Attorney Dante Pride is representing the family. Pride and other family members held a news conference outside the La Mesa Police Department Tuesday. "We are going to get justice. We will not be silenced, everyone who is watching this I want you to call the La Mesa police department and ask them what is that officer's name who decided he could attempt to murder a non-violent protestor?" asked Pride.Pride says the police department hasn't provided any information about what happened. The family believes she was hit with a rubber bullet or bean bag casing, but they're waiting for the hospital to confirm.During the news conference, a reporter said they had witness information that Furcron through a bottle, but the family says that is absolutely false."I have no evidence that she threw anything, she dropped a can when she got shot," said Pride."Even if she did throw a can, does she deserve to get shot in the face, that's all we want to know," said Ahmed.Pride also points to the La Mesa Police Departments' own training rules, which say bean bag munitions should not be aimed above the waist.
