SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Windmill Farms Community Market in Del Cerro is asking for the public's help locating their stolen trailer. The family-owned grocery store has been serving San Diego since 2003 with a mission to provide healthy, organic foods at affordable prices. Surveillance video from the early morning hours on Sunday captures a white SUV with black rims circling the market. At around 4:30 a.m. the SUV hauls off the trailer. “Just unbelievable," said Michael Villegas, produce manager and buyer. “That trailer was a big part of our business; everything we had for our events was in that trailer."Villegas is also in charge of the store's community events, like bringing food to the Lake Murray 4th of July Fireworks and bringing fresh produce to schools. “Schools depend on us to do the events, if we have to start over it’s going to be tough," said Villegas. The trailer held all their tents, tarps, tables, and BBQ's.Villegas estimates the loss at around ,000. “I just hope we can get it back, you know, that would be awesome if we could get it back, if anybody seen anything give us a call," said Villegas. A spokesperson for San Diego Police says a report was filed and a detective should get the case in a few days. If anyone wants to donate supplies or money to help replace what was stolen, contact Windmill Farms:(619) 287-1400Address: 6386 Del Cerro Blvd., San Diego, CA 92120If they can replace the trailer, Villegas says Windmill Farms will attend the March 31 Rolando Street Fair. 1511

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — While San Diego has several desirable neighborhoods, Solana Beach may take the cake. That's according to a recent survey by financial website 24/7 Wall St., which named the coastal city one of the best places to live in America. Solana Beach ranked seventh on the list of 50 cities, based on its walkability, commute times, and attractions."Located less than 30 minutes from downtown San Diego, area residents have access to jobs and entertainment located in the major urban area," the website wrote. "The city is also home to one of only three train stations in San Diego County, providing commuters more options. For recreation, the city boasts 1.7 miles of beach, and a higher than average per capita concentration of restaurants, gyms, museums, and movie theaters."The website used data affordability, economy, quality of life, and community to develop its best cities list. Things like crime rates, number of restaurants, employment, income, taxes and home value, and health care statistics all factored into the site's analysis.Cities that made the list included:1. Manhattan Beach, Calif.2. Winnetka, Ill.3. Hanover, N.H.4. Highland Park, Texas5. Piedmont, Calif.6. Paradise Valley, Ariz.7. Solana Beach, Calif.8. Newport Beach, Calif.9. Mercer Island, Wash.10. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- Across California, many businesses continue to struggle in San Diego County, and some business owners say they can’t afford to pay their rent anymore without their usual income during this pandemic.Landlords are also feeling the effects of the small business struggle.“Many tenants are paying their rents, there aren’t many tenants paying their rents from profits,” said Sandy Sigal, CEO of NewMark Merrill Companies. “We’re not going to make any money or have any profits this year at all, we know that, but we do need enough money to pay our mortgages and lenders.NewMark Merrill Companies own about 80 shopping centers in three states, including California. They own 12 shopping centers in San Diego County, from Oceanside to Chula Vista.Sigal said many of his tenants had been hit hard during this pandemic, especially in California.“The category type that we’ve lost lots of tenants are the nail and hair salons, very often run by mom and pops,” he said.In San Diego County, the following seven tenants have closed their businesses permanently.Expedia – Terra Nova Plaza in Chula VistaSouplantation – Piazza Carmel in San DiegoSouplantation - Chula Vista Crossings in Chula VistaPronto Insurance – Tri-City Crossroads in OceansideElements Massage – Nordahl Marketplace in San MarcosShape Threading – Nordahl Marketplace in San MarcosKeller Williams – Rancho Bernardo Village in San Diego“We did what we could to help tenants where they needed it,” said Sigal. “If you’re a small restaurant and you had to close, you were closed for 3 to 4 months; we did what we could to help you, which included rent deferrals and helping you apply for those PPP loans. We bought tarps. We bought fans, and we bought artificial turf. We’re doing what we can.”But Sigal said landlords could only do so much, and it’s up to the government to step in and help save these businesses.“If there was a fire or earthquake or flood, they would have insurance for all this,” he said. “We need to extend what was PPP or The RESTART Act. I’m in favor of some stimulus to the unemployed.”Without additional assistance now, it’s a struggle he expects to continue until significant changes are made, and businesses can fully bounce back.“If the government helps my tenants, I’d be helped enough,” he said. “This is no one’s fault, but the pandemic and we all got to get through this together.” 2393

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - With the March 2020 Presidential Primary approaching, the San Diego Registrar of Voters is urging everyone to make sure they are registered properly."This one election is the most complex elections for administrators like ourselves and voters that are out there," says Registrar Michael Vu.With six political parties holding presidential primaries, plus the dozens of overlapping state and local district elections, Vu expects to create more than 12,000 unique versions of the ballot. Rules on who can vote in each party make it even more complicated. In December, Vu's office sent out more than 500,000 mailers to voters to make sure they know the options.Anyone registered with a specific party will only be allowed to vote in that party's primary. Republicans will vote for the Republican candidates, Democrats for Democrats and so on.But, right now more then 30 percent of registered voters in San Diego are listed as "No-Party Preference."For those people, they can choose to vote in the primary for American Independent, Democrat, or Libertarian parties. They cannot vote in the Republican, Green, or Peace and Freedom parties."It makes it a little more confusing," says Vu. "Something that voters need to know what political party status they are in. And if it’s different from the presidential candidates they want to vote for, they need to register or re-register now."To help voters navigate their options, the Registrar has set up a website where people can get all the information they need. The deadline to choose a party, or to choose which primary you want to vote in, is January 6."If you’re a non-partisan voter, now is the time to act," says Vu. "Frankly, if you’re a voter in general just make sure you verify all of your information." 1779
