SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — County health officials say 12 new flu-related deaths have been recorded in the last week, as cases also trend upward.The new influenza deaths included a 34-year-old East County woman with an underlying medical condition who died from influenza A, according to the County Health and Human Services Agency. This season, there have been 32 deaths in the county related to the flu, compared to 24 deaths at this time last season.The county says 2,292 local lab-confirmed cases were also reported last week. In comparison, only 487 confirmed cases were reported during the same week last year. "Where we are now in a situation where we're faced with all bad options."The county's public health officer, Dr. Wilma Wooten, recently requested the state reconsider San Diego County's tier placement and keep the county in the red tier. She argued that data from October revealed the county's increased COVID-19 cases are not because of the sectors that would be impacted the most by moving into the purple tier. The request was not approved."We're going to continue to work to do everything we can with the state to have an approach that's right," said Fletcher.He said it's essential that every jurisdiction across the county does what it can to reduce the spread of COVID-19."We have to come together," he said. "There are limits of what the county can do when it comes to enforcement; we really need the help of the law enforcement agencies."But some say this has gone too far. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Carlsbad leaders this week approved nearly 0,000 to construct a new trail planned to loop around the city's strawberry fields.Carlsbad City Council voted to add the Hub Park trail to the city's Capital Improvement Program, a 2.4-mile trail on the south shore of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon in an area dubbed "Hub Park."Hub Park sits on land owned by SDG&E. Everyone is always amazed," said Messenger.The view is about to become even more priceless because the Padres aren't expected to open up the stadium to fans when they start the season later this month.
