SAN DIEGO - A crash into a fire hydrant sent a geyser of water 50 feet in the air and flooded homes in Chollas Creek Sunday afternoon, witnesses said.The accident happened around 2 p.m. when witnesses said a U-Haul backed into a fire hydrant near the 5000 block of University Avenue. The hydrant broke, sending water shooting into the air.A home, several cars and some apartments nearby were flooded. The water was shut off about 45 minutes after it started, witnesses said.There is no damage estimate at this time. 523

SAN DIEGO (CNS & KGTV) -  Police believe a woman who crashed her car into a home in Talmadge  was intoxicated at the time.The crash happened about 2:30 p.m. Saturday at a home on Winona Avenue near Lucille Drive, according to San Diego police.A 23-year-old woman was driving her 2017 Honda on Winona Avenue at a high speed when she veered off the road and ran into the corner of a nearby home, according to San Diego Police Officer Robert Heims. The woman suffered serious head injuries and fractures to her right leg, and had to be taken to a hospital.No one in the home was injured.Police processed the driver for allegedly driving under the influence, Heims said.A building engineer was called in to assess structure damage, and the Red Cross helped with two residents displaced by the crash, San Diego Fire-Rescue spokesman Jose Ysea said. 880

SAN DIEGO -- Video taken Tuesday shows people climbing on top of the border fence near Friendship Park near the Pacific Coast US/Mexico border as the migrant caravan approaches.According to a Border Patrol spokesperson, agents are keeping watch on the U.S. side of the park, but aren’t aware of anyone climbing all the way over onto the U.S. side of the beach.Border Patrol says it’s technically not legal for people to sit on the fence because it’s on U.S. soil, but no arrests are being made at this time.It’s unclear whether or not the group is with the migrant caravan.The incident comes as U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced the closure of several northbound border lanes in San Ysidro and Otay Mesa.The closures are expected to cause delays. 765

Colleen Grace is the first to give an in-depth view of what led up to an entire SEAL platoon being withdrawn from Iraq following a Fourth of July barbecue and the alleged sexual assault of a sailor. Grace detailed what she witnessed that night and described other misconduct. Special Warfare Operator First Class Adel A. Enayat was charged with sexual assault. He denies any wrongdoing. The AP initially withheld his name because he filed a counter complaint saying the sailor raped him. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 22-year-old man was fatally stabbed during a fight in the College Area, police said Thursday.The stabbing was reported shortly before 7:35 p.m. Wednesday at a home near 71st Street and Mohawk Street, about two blocks north of El Cajon Boulevard, San Diego police Lt. Matt Dobbs said.Officers responded and found a man suffering from at least one stab wound to his upper torso, Dobbs said. The victim, whose name was withheld pending family notification, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:56 p.m. Wednesday.Investigators determined the victim was hosting a gathering at the residence when some a disagreement began, prompting the him to ask people to leave, the lieutenant said. About 30 minutes later, some of the attendees returned and a fight broke out, during which the victim was stabbed.The suspects drove off in two vehicles, one described as a silver sedan and the other as a tan- or gold-colored sedan, Dobbs said.No detailed descriptions of the suspects were immediately available. 1043
