BEIJING, June 29 (Xinhua) -- China raised gasoline and diesel prices by 600 yuan (about 87.8 U.S. dollars) per tonne, starting zero o'clock Tuesday.     The increase raised the price for gasoline by about 0.45 yuan per liter, or 8.6 percent, and the price of diesel by about 0.51 yuan per liter, or 9.6 percent, said the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) in a statement on its Web site.     It was the third oil price adjustment this year. On May 31, the NDRC raised the pump prices of gasoline and diesel by 400 yuan per tonne, or 7 percent and 8 percent, respectively.     The adjustment was in response to "recent international oil price fluctuation" under the country's new fuel pricing mechanism, as international crude prices kept rising, said the statement.     According to the new mechanism, China's domestic prices are to be "indirectly linked" to global crude prices "in a controlled manner."     Under the pricing mechanism, China would consider changing benchmark retail prices of oil products when the international crude price rises or falls by a daily average of 4 percent over 22working days in a row.     Oil prices settled at 69.16 dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange Friday, registering a 4.2 percent rise from the price of 66.31 dollars a barrel when the last adjustment took place on May 31.

JINAN, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Thirteen people were confirmed dead and two others fatally injured in a fireworks explosion Saturday afternoon in east China's Shandong Province. The explosion took place at an unlicensed fireworks processing factory in Yangzhuangzi Village of Qingyun Township, Qingyun County, at 1:30 p.m. Three rooms owned by villager Yang Ziye were toppled, according to the Qingyun county government. VENICE, May 25 (Xinhua) -- China's top lawmaker Wu Bangguo left here for home on Sunday afternoon after concluding his three-nation Europe tour, which helped push his country's relations and cooperation with Europe.     Wu is the first chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), top legislature of China, who has paid an official goodwill visit to Austria in 15 years and to Italy in 12 years. The Europe tour also took Wu to Russia. During the 11-day trip, Wu met with the heads of state and governments of the three European nations and held talks with their parliament leaders. He said the Chinese government places great importance on and actively promotes development and application of all kinds of renewable energy, including solar energy. UNITED NATIONS, June 15 (Xinhua) -- China on Monday called for the peaceful resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue through diplomatic negotiations.     La Yifan, minister-counselor of China's Permanent Mission to the UN, told a Security Council meeting that China has always called for resolving the Iranian nuclear issue through diplomatic negotiations in a peaceful manner.     "China always believes that resolving this issue through diplomatic means is in the interest of peace and security in the Middle East and is in the common interest of the international community," he said.     La said China is ready to continue to play a constructive role in this regard.     At present, "rare opportunities" exist with regard to the restart of the negotiations with Iran over the nuclear issue, he said.     La called on Iran to strengthen its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to resolve outstanding issues as early as possible.     He also urged the international community to seize the opportunity to intensify diplomatic efforts so as to ensure an early start of the negotiations.
