SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A parolee accused of sexually assaulting an 88-year- old woman at a Hillcrest nursing home just days after being released from jail for an unrelated drug offense was charged Wednesday with rape, elder abuse and other felonies.Lusean Arline, 48, was arrested Monday in connection with the alleged Oct. 27 sex assault at the Balboa Nursing & Rehab Center. Deputy District Attorney Scott Pirrello alleged that Arline entered the nursing home around 3 a.m. and was found completely nude on top of the victim in her bed. How Arline allegedly entered the facility remains under investigation, but Pirrello said it's believed he got in through an unlocked door.RELATED: 88-year-old woman sexually assaulted at Hillcrest nursing homeStaff heard the victim and her roommates screaming and entered the room, prompting Arline to flee the scene, the prosecutor said. The victim, who suffers from memory decline, sustained a fractured arm in the attack, according to Pirrello.Arline was identified as the alleged perpetrator through ``evidence left at the scene'' that was submitted to the FBI Combined DNA Index System, he said. Police then tracked down Arline with help from the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, SDPD Lt. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Cruise ships are scheduled to return to the Port of San Diego this week and through the new year, part of an effort by the cruise lines to reestablish ships in U.S. waters as a prerequisite to resume cruising in a post-COVID-19 world, it was announced Monday.Five Holland America Line ships and one Princess Cruises ship are scheduled to arrive beginning Wednesday, periodically docking at the B Street Cruise Terminal for fuel, food, supplies and services. At this time, none of the vessels will be carrying passengers or conducting any sailings, according to local port officials.To resume cruises after the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention deems it safe in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the ships must reestablish operations in United States waters to meet CDC and U.S. Coast Guard guidelines.According to port officials, time spent docked in San Diego will be limited. Each ship is scheduled to dock at B Street the morning of their scheduled arrival date and depart that evening.The Holland America Line ships are scheduled to remain in the San Diego area and may be visible off the coast, with some periodically positioning in the outer anchorage just outside of San Diego Bay off the coast of Coronado. After their initial arrival, each HAL ship plans to periodically return to the B Street Cruise Terminal to refuel and/or to resupply or receive services. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A robbery at a Tierrasanta credit union branch led to one arrest, police said Friday.A man entered a Navy Federal Credit Union branch in the 10600 block of Tierrasanta Boulevard at 1:26 p.m. and presented the teller with a demand note, San Diego Police Officer Sarah Foster said.The teller complied with the suspect's demands and gave him an undetermined amount of money.Officers headed to the scene and, after a search, were able to find and detain the suspect, a 57-year-old man, on Porto Court in a nearby residential neighborhood, according to San Diego Police Sgt. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - City officials and homeless advocates announced an expansion Tuesday of the city's program to establish safe parking lots for residents who live out of their cars or recreational vehicles.Mayor Kevin Faulconer, Councilman Scott Sherman and representatives of Jewish Family Service of San Diego jointly announced that the city will make a parking lot in Mission Valley near SDCCU Stadium available to vehicles in the next 45 days.The lot, which will also have supportive services for homeless residents, like job training, financial education and housing assistance, has space for up to 80 RVs or 200 regular cars and trucks.Jewish Family Service oversees the two existing parking lots and will do the same at the third, which is located near the intersection of Friars Road and Mission Village Drive.RELATED: San Diego program to provide safe parking for homeless living in vehicles"Often when someone becomes homeless for the first time, they end up living in their car and don't know where else to turn," Faulconer said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) -- A prominent local civil rights leader called on the San Diego County Sheriff's Department Monday to fire a deputy who allegedly shared a "lewd and racist and vile" altered photograph of George Floyd taken from the viral video of the Minnesota man's death in police custody.The doctored image showed a nude male "porn star" kneeling on Floyd in place of Minneapolis police Officer Derek Chauvin, who kept his knee on Floyd's neck for nearly nine minutes as the detainee repeatedly protested that he could not breathe, according to NAACP San Diego Branch President Francine Maxwell.
