SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Home prices in the US fell in May while San Diego home prices remained flat and rents rose sharply, according to a new Zillow report. Zillow says the median home in San Diego is now worth 1,000. In the US, the median home is worth 6,800, down 0.1 percent from April. Overall, Zillow says home values in the US grew by more than 5 percent year-over-year. Some good news however, is that San Diego’s housing supply is increasing. Zillow says inventory is up 11.5 percent year-over-year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Former Congressman Duncan Hunter Sr. called his son’s opponent in the November election a threat to national security to his face on Tuesday.Hunter Sr., the father of Congressman Duncan D. Hunter, held what he called a “security briefing” on Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar across from the U.S.S Midway Museum. Campa-Najjar is running against Duncan D. Hunter for his seat in the 50th Congressional District. Congressman Hunter and his wife Margaret are currently facing 60 federal charges of wire fraud and conspiracy. Both have pleaded not guilty. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Firefighters Wednesday battled a trash fire that burned in the same area scorched by the Caliente Fire. The blaze sparked near the 905 and Caliente Avenue, according to crews. It's unclear how the fire may have started, but video from Sky10 showed trash atop a hill on fire. According to officials with the Workforce Partnership, walk-ins won’t be accepted, however some services will be available by appointment only.“Our resources have always been available online, and actually the number one way people file for unemployment in or out of a public health emergency is online,” said Andrew Picard, chief program Officer at the San Diego Workforce Partnership.Picard said if people don't have a computer or internet access, don't worry, the phone still works. Career agents and advisors with the organization can walk you through a job search or the unemployment process.“We have teams of career agents and advisors standing by over the phone and with online tools to do virtual meetings,” Picard said. “A great deal of resources and programs that are still in operation and still available to the community.”Unemployment assistance isn’t just for people who recently lost their job.According to the Employment Development Department, “You are encouraged to apply for Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits if you are unemployed, which includes reasons such as, your hours are reduced due to the quarantine, you were separated from your employer during the quarantine, you are subject to a quarantine required by a medical professional or state or local health officer.”Last week Governor Gavin Newsom sped up the time it takes to get financial assistance.
