OTTAWA – The coronavirus pandemic has complicated nearly every aspect of our lives, even the most intimate parts, like sex. It’s always important to practice safe sex to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, but now health officials say COVID-19 should be considered as well and precautions should be taken.Wednesday, Canada’s chief public health officer, Dr. Theresa Tam, issued a statement with tips on staying safe from the virus while engaging in sexual activities.“Sexual health is an important part of our overall health,” said Tam. “However, sex can be complicated in the time of COVID-19, especially for those without an intimate partner in their household or whose sexual partner is at higher risk for COVID-19.”If you choose to engage in an in-person sexual encounter with someone outside of your household or close contacts, Tam says to skip kissing and avoid face-to-face contact or closeness. She even went as far as suggesting using a mask that covers the nose and mouth.Tam says you can also reduce your risk by monitoring for COVID-19 symptoms and not having sex if someone is experiencing those symptoms.Tam also suggests limiting alcohol and drug use, so you and your partner are able to make safe decisions.Additionally, you should be aware if you or your partner may be at higher risk for more severe outcomes of COVID-19. That includes people with underlying medical conditions, those with compromised immune systems, and people living with obesity.“Current evidence indicates there is a very low likelihood of contracting the novel coronavirus through semen or vaginal fluids,” said Tam. “However, even if the people involved do not have symptoms, sexual activity with new partners does increase your risk of getting or passing COVID-19 through close contact, like kissing. Remember as with all social interactions, try to keep your number of close contacts low if possible.” 1919

PARIS (AP) — Kenzo Takada, the iconic French-Japanese fashion designer famed for his jungle-infused designs and free-spirited aesthetic that channeled global travel, has died. He was 81. The family said Takada died from complications from COVID-19. Takada retired from his house in 1999 to pursue a career in art, but it remains a respected fixture in high Paris fashion. Since 1993, the brand Kenzo has been owned by luxury goods company LVMH. He studied fashion in Tokyo before relocating to Paris and taking over a boutique there in 1970. The fashion house said he was "an emblematic personality in the fashion industry — always infusing creativity and color into the world." 686

PARADISE, Calif. (KGTV) -- The devastating Camp Fire claimed 88 lives and destroyed thousands of homes. “We start with a punch list every day and there's usually like 10-15 items on it and we usually get about 5 or 6 done,” said Battalion Chief Curtis Lawrie.Including filling out insurance papers, getting quotes from contractors. A drastically different new normal. “The place where you usually set your wallet, your keys, you don't have any of that routine.”The changes aren’t just affecting adults in town, children are feeling the impact as well. While Lawrie says donations are still pouring in, his concern is years down the road. “They were in very toxic smoke for 24-36 hours without a break and you know that's going to have really bad effects on their physical being.”Looking back the firefight was emotional for everyone involved. “Two and a half hours into it, we realized it wasn't a fire fight anymore.”The focus then shifted to saving lives. “There was a period of about four hours where I didn't know if my family made it out.”Lawrie continued, saying he had to do his job and have faith others were helping as he was. “I'm really thankful that so many people helped each other, and I'd like to say the best part of humanity showed up that day.”Humanity that continues to give during the holiday season. 1724

PHOENIX, Arizona — Aaron Wallace was sleeping when he was attacked in his bed.The patient at the Arizona State Hospital was stabbed by Reuben Murray, a fellow patient with a murderous past, who was wandering the halls unsupervised in the middle of the night with a sharpened pencil, according to a recent lawsuit filed against the state. The lawsuit raises new questions about safety and security inside Arizona’s only public psychiatric hospital and whether conditions have improved after sweeping changes and promises were made following an extensive KNXV television station three years ago.  The lawsuit also alleges warnings about Murray’s aggressive behavior were ignored in the days before the stabbing.“The place is not better,” said Josh Mozell, an attorney representing Wallace. “Things have not changed. And for our clients, it’s becoming more dangerous.”The director of Arizona’s Department of Health Services, Dr. Cara Christ, did not answer specific questions about the stabbing, citing patient privacy laws. But in a written statement, Christ said the safety and well-being of patients are of “paramount importance.” [Read the full statement at the bottom of the page]Wallace was stabbed on October 3, 2017, and he filed a lawsuit against the state in October this year. The case is being brought by Mozell and fellow attorney Holly Gieszl, who collectively represent many individuals with mental illness. Some of the significant claims from the lawsuit: 1483
