MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – All four police officers involved in the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis are now facing charges. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison announced Wednesday afternoon that former officer Derek Chauvin’s murder charge has been upgraded from third-degree to second-degree. He’s also being charged with second-degree manslaughter.Ellison also announced that former officers Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng and Thomas Lane are being charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder for their role in Floyd's death. Watch Ellison discuss the additional charges below: Ellison took the lead on the case last week and will work alongside Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman as they seek justice for Floyd’s killing. Wednesday, Ellison said additional evidence in the case allowed prosecutors to enhance the murder charge against Chauvin.The attorney general said that getting a conviction against the former officers will be a challenge. He added that Freeman is the only prosecutor in the state who has won a murder conviction case against an officer.Floyd died in police custody on Memorial Day. Bystander video shows one police officer, Chauvin, kneeling on Floyd's neck for more than eight minutes. Additional video shows that officers Keung and Lane also put their body weight on Floyd during the arrest. Officer Thao stood by with his back turned during the arrest. The neighborhood app Nextdoor has gotten a reputation for sometimes strange posts that can prompt mean and off-color responses.There's a whole Twitter account dedicated to examples. Now, Nextdoor has rolled out a new feature to try and keep some civility online. It's called a "Kindness Reminder." If you try and post a response that's similar to one that's been flagged in the past, you'll get a reminder of the community guidelines and that they can change your response. But you can still post what you want. “One of the problems of the age we're living in is that people don't necessarily share a common understanding of what counts as civil interaction,” said Keith Bybee, a professor of law and political science at Syracuse University.Bybee says some people are strategically not civil or just plain rude in order to attract attention. An investigation found that the gunshots that killed a Milwaukee pastor could be heard during a child's virtual school lesson in the home, prompting the teacher to call 911.Milwaukee police concluded in a report released Friday that the child was in a house on Sept. 11, when several gunshots could be heard by students and a teacher attending the virtual lesson. The teacher then called the police, informing them of the shots being fired at the child's address.As previously reported, 52-year-old Michelle Blackmon, a pastor, was allegedly shot and killed amid an argument, according to family.According to MPD's Friday report, first responders found the victim deceased seated against a stove in the kitchen. Two gunshot wounds were later found in her temple and her cheek. MPD did not identify the victim, but her identify was confirmed with family. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting.A suspect was taken into custody on the same day.
