SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 19-year-old man was behind bars Friday on suspicion of fatally shooting an acquaintance at a San Ysidro motel.Customs officers who recognized Jonathan Orduno of Chula Vista from a be-on-the-lookout bulletin took him into custody at the San Ysidro Point of Entry on Thursday night in connection with the death last week of 22-year-old Adrian Torres-Garcia, according to San Diego police.A housekeeper found Torres-Garcia dead in a rented room at a motel in the 100 block of Calle Primera shortly before noon March 18, homicide Lt. Matt Dobbs said. The victim, a South Bay native with no known permanent address, died of at least one gunshot to his upper body.RELATED: San Diego police investigate death of man at San Ysidro motelDobbs declined to disclose a suspected motive for the shooting or release details on what led investigators to identify Orduno as the alleged killer. (KGTV) -- The two soldiers killed in an aircraft accident on San Clemente Island have been identified, the U.S. Army Special Operations Command said Saturday.According to the news release, 33-year-old Staff Sgt. Vincent P. Marketta of New Jersey and 22-year-old Sgt. Taylor M. Shelton of San Bernardino died on August 27 during an aviation training mishap.Marketta enlisted in the Army in 2011 as a 15T UH-60 Black Hawk Repairer and was assigned to the 160th Special Operations Regiment. While assigned to the unit, Marketta deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He also deployed multiple times to Iraq for Operation Inherent Resolve, according to the Army.Shelton enlisted in the Army in 2016 also as a 15T UH-60 Black Hawk Repairer and was assigned to the same unit as Marketta. During his service, Shelton deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.“The loss of Staff Sgt. Marketta and Sgt. Shelton has left a scar in this Regiment that will never completely heal,” said Col. Andrew R. Graham, commander of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne).“Their level of dedication to the 160th SOAR (A) and their exemplary service in the Army is the embodiment of what it means to be a Night Stalker and a Soldier. SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — South Salt Lake Police officers pitched in to replace a woman's American flag after they say she used it to fight off a home intruder on Monday.According to the department, 42-year-old Justin Scott Smith attempted to break into the woman's home shortly before 9 a.m.Police say when the suspect entered the front yard through the gate and assaulted multiple people, the woman grabbed the flag pole with the flag attached to defend herself and her family members. They say she hit the suspect multiple times, breaking the pole in the process, and the victims retreated into the home.Smith kicked the door in and continued to assault everyone inside, police say, before officers arrived and took him into custody.He was arrested on suspicion of assault, aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, and criminal mischief.After the incident, police say the woman was worried about desecrating the flag because the pole had broken and the flag had hit the ground, so officers took up a collection to replace it. SAN DIEGO (AP) — Fans at the Holiday Bowl between No. 19 Iowa and No. 22 Southern California will be asked to do the “Iowa Wave” directed at patients in a children’s hospital in Iowa City as well as representatives from two children’s hospitals in Southern California who will be at the game on Dec. 27.The wave will replicate what has become a game-day salute at Hawkeyes home games to patients and family members at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.The salute started on Sept. 2, 2017, when more than 70,000 fans stood at the end of the first quarter and waved to patients and families in the children’s hospital, which rises above Kinnick Stadium. The patients and families waved back.
