(KGTV) -- Sweetwater Bike Park in Bonita is the first of its kind for San Diego County parks, and it was a long time in the making."As an organization, we have been advocating for over 10 years for this type of park in the county, so we're thrilled," says Susie Murphy, the Executive Director of the San Diego Mountain Biking Association.The park opened in January, and riders of all ages and levels showed up on two wheels."On opening day, I like to say the youngest rider was seventeen months old, and the oldest was seventy-four. It's for all ages, from tiny kids on their Strider bikes, up to teenagers from the neighborhood on their BMX bikes," Murphy says.And Murphy says she loves the design of the park. It comes with jumps, two flow trails, and a skills zone."Every day it puts a smile on my face," Murphy says. Unfortunately, soon after the park opened, it had to be shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. "We did not know what to expect, it was definitely a disappointment," added Murphy.The park was closed for a couple of months, but is now back open for business, but with a few rule changes."Right now we're only letting fifty people come in at a time," says Park Ranger Adair Flores. "They are required to wear a mask when they come in and they do have to stay six feet apart from each other. BALTIMORE, Md. - A picture is worth a thousand words. It's a cliche saying but it's true.Many times when you look at a picture, it takes you back to that exact moment in time. That's what a local artist focuses on doing for people to capture their memories.Shawn Parsons has been painting his entire life and sells his work but sometimes he gives away a piece of his artwork.Over the winter, he painted a picture of a pet after his coworker's dog died."The overwhelming joy was so huge for me when I left there I thought maybe there’s something about painting someone else’s memories," said Parsons. "It was such a cool feeling for me to give something to someone where the emotion was so high I continued to do it."So he painted a few more and gave them away.This pandemic put a different twist on things for Parsons. His friend, Erin Millon, asked if he would paint a picture for her son's birthday. It was just another project that turned into a movement.Parsons painted a picture for her son, McCabe, of him playing lacrosse. McCabe made the varsity lacrosse team at McDonogh High School as a freshman but his season was canceled."We were able to play two games and then everything shut down," said McCabe. "It hurt a lot, still does. One of the worst parts about it was seeing how much the seniors lost and knowing how much they care and how much they’ve been working all fall, all winter."McCabe was blown away by Parsons' painting, he wanted others to feel what he did. Brittany Littleton started “Little Luv Rescue” straight out of high school, taking in abused and neglected animals.“Animals are my favorite part of life, I would say,” Littleton says. “They’re just like pure, innocent beings.”When the wildfires hit southern California, Littleton didn’t hesitate to do what she does best: rescue animals. As everyone else was fleeing, Littleton drove into a fire evacuation zone to rescue livestock.“The fire came to the top of the hill, and it was like you could feel the heat from hundreds of feet away,” Littleton recalls.Littleton and other volunteers herded sheep, goats, horses, and even turtles, into their vehicles. But they realized they had nowhere to put them.Then, Cesar Millan, popularly known as “The Dog Whisperer,” stepped up to help.“I was raised on a farm, so I’m a farm boy. I had a pack of dogs and pigs and chickens, so to me, this is normal,” Millan says.Millan took in and tended to the rescued livestock. Many of them needed more care than others, like one llama saved from the wildfires.“So now, the little baby maggots are coming out,” Millan says, while tending to the llama.The animal was malnourished and had an infection. In a way, the wildfire evacuation may have been a blessing in disguise.“In her case, it actually saved her life completely,” he says. “Medically, emotionally, spiritually, everything. We were not counting on looking at this.”An extreme case like that one only underscores why Littleton fell in love with rescues in the first place.“I think everyone has that sense of like wanting to protect the innocent and animals are the innocent, and they can’t get themselves out and we have them,” Littleton says. “And people have purchased them or bred them or whatever, rescued them, and now have put them in a situation where they rely on us, so we can’t turn our backs on them. We have to get them out to safety because we are the ones who are responsible for that.” 1957
