PAGE, Ariz. – A man died Sunday after authorities say he fell off a cliff overlooking the Colorado River in Arizona.The National Park Service (NPS) says 25-year-old Orlando Serrano-Arzola of Phoenix fell at the Glen Canyon Dam Overlook around 9 a.m. The overlook is located in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area near Page.Witnesses told NPS that the victim was taking pictures on top of the rim overlooking the river when he fell about 100 feet and then slid about 150 more feet.Serrano-Arzola suffered severe trauma and showed no signs of life after the fall, according to NPS.A Coconino County sheriff’s deputy rappelled to the victim at 9:27 a.m. and confirmed the victim was deceased. The body was then transported to a medical examiner’s office in Flagstaff for an autopsy.While recovering the body, NPS says officers discovered bones at the base of the overlook that have been determined to be human remains. Officials didn't provide further information about the bones.Serrano-Arzola’s death and the discovery of the remains are under investigation by the National Park Service, the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, and the Coconino County Medical Examiner. 1179

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — Police in California have launched an investigation after authorities received calls of six people showing signs of drug overdoses during a six-hour period in the same city. The Pasadena Star-News reported Pasadena officials say two patients died, three recovered and one remained in a hospital receiving treatment. Authorities could not say conclusively whether the two men who died succumbed to drug overdoses until they receive a coroner’s autopsy findings. Police say they believe the cases may involve fentanyl. Pasadena police spokesman Lt. Bill Grisafe calls the suspected overdose surge an anomaly not previously seen in Pasadena. 670

PINE VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) - A suspected human smuggler was sentenced to 30 months in prison for barreling through a Border Patrol checkpoint, narrowly missing vehicles and severely injuring a border agent.Jorge Garcia-Osornio, 28, of Michoacán, Mexico, was charged with transporting certain aliens and aiding and abetting from the Nov. 14, 2017 incident.Border officials said Garcia was illegally in the U.S. when he approached a Pine Valley border checkpoint with two illegal immigrants hidden in the floor of his vehicle. As he neared the line of cars waiting, Garcia made an illegal U-turn and began driving in the opposite direction on the freeway, officials said.RELATED: Border Patrol tests body cameras in East San Diego CountyAgents began to pursue Garcia before he made another U-turn and headed back toward the checkpoint at speeds reaching 100 miles per hour.As he reached the checkpoint, officials said Garcia narrowly missed two vehicles and a border agent, and blasted through a metal sign, sending debris in all directions.“In committing his criminal act, Garcia not only placed the lives of those he smuggled in grave danger, but seriously injured a Border Patrol agent in the process,” Chief Patrol Agent Rodney S. PALM HARBOR, Fla. — A rare two-headed southern black racer snake was recently found at a home in Palm Harbor.Kay Rogers said her cat brought the snake into the home through the doggy door. The cat placed the snake on the carpet."She brings us presents all the time. This day, my daughter sent me a message. 'Mom, she brought in a snake, and it has two heads,'" Rogers saif. "I think this tops it, but she's an adventurous cat for sure."Rogers said her 13-year-old daughter, Avery, placed the snake in a plastic container. She said her daughter and her son like learning about reptiles."We went and got like a habitat setup for it. I was talking to a couple different reptile specialists and they were kind of helping me through what to do with him like getting him a heating pad and trying to feed him," Rogers said.The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission shared the story on Facebook. FWC said the phenomenon, bicephaly, is uncommon, but happens during embryo development when two monozygotic twins failed to separate, leaving the heads conjoined onto a single body.FWC says that both heads' tongue flicks and react to movement, but not always in the same way. Two-headed snakes are unlikely to survive in the wild, as the two brains make different decisions that inhibit the ability to feed or escape from predators."Because of the two head thing, he's very uncoordinated and couldn't get to the food very well. It was like one head would see the food and try to go for it, the other would be going the other way and pulling him back," Rogers said.The snake is currently being cared for and monitored by FWC staff."He was really an easy pet," Rogers said. I really just wanted to kind of see him thrive and have people that would take care of him and give him the best chance. I know, well my daughter's research shows they don't live well in the wild at all.
