Airbnb announced new rules for New Year's Eve to prevent parties and large gatherings at its properties amid a surge in coronavirus cases.The vacation rental company released its plan on Thursday to limit rentals in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, Australia, France, and Spain.The new measures state that Airbnb would require guests who don't have a positive review history to book a minimum of two nights for any stay, including Dec. 31. Any guests with reservations on Dec. 31 must swear that they will not throw a party under threat of legal charges.The company said that guests who have a history of positive reviews on Airbnb would not be subject to this restriction.The company said it would allow already-booked one-night reservations to continue as planned since their "data has historically shown that one-night New Year’s Eve bookings made prior to now very rarely lead to unauthorized parties." 936

AGOURA, California — The movie set ranch featured in the HBO television series “Westworld” and almost 500 other productions was destroyed in the Woolsey Fire, Santa Monica Mountains park rangers tweeted Friday.The piece of Hollywood history, known as “Western Town” at Paramount Ranch, was located in Agoura. With its rolling hills and canyons, it was used to create an Old West look for film and television shoots.Paramount Studios bought the 2,700 acre ranch in the golden era of Hollywood. According to the National Park Service, the permanent Western Town was built in the 1950s and posed as Tombstone, Arizona, and Dodge City, Kansas.In addition to “Westworld”, the set also served as the home of “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman” and episodes of Gunsmoke. All that Lizabeth Birnbaum of Seven Hills, Ohio wanted was a little peace while taking care of her elderly father, but instead, she says she's been traumatized by hundreds of robocalls since the beginning of the year.Birnbaum said it all started when she answered a phone questionnaire, the robocalls started ringing her home phone every day."It's horrible, horrible, and it's every day, morning, noon and night," said Birnbaum."And they're threatening me for money.""The 'do not call' really doesn't help with these robo guys, they know how to get around it."Birnbaum said she contacted her phone carrier, and it helped her set up blocks, but the robo caller just kept turning to other phone numbers."That's when I decided to contact the Federal Trade Commission and file a complaint," said Birnbaum.The FTC reports robocall complaints from Ohio have now reached more than 275,000 annually, more than doubling over the past three years.The FCC recently fined one telemarketer 0 million dollars for tricking consumers into answering robocalls.Cleveland BBB President, Sue McConnell, said consumers should still sign up for the "do not call registry," contact their phone carriers about phone number blocking, but the first line of defense is to ignore the calls, and don't engage the callers in a conversation."If you get a phone call, and you look at your caller ID, and you don't recognize that caller, don't answer it," said McConnell."Because if you answer, now you've confirmed that it's a valid phone number, and that you'll answer."Still, Birnbaum believes more federal investigators are needed to slow down the growing robocall epidemic."It's a shame because a lot of people are elderly, and they take advantage of elderly people," said Birnbaum."Something needs to be done, it's not fair someone should be invaded in their own homes."  1935
