SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police investigated Wednesday threats made against multiple professors at University of San Diego. A flyer with gun crosshairs was slipped under the office doors of two professors, USD confirmed. The threats also included flyers with the professors’ names and pictures, calling them fascists and urging students to boycott their classes, 10News learned."A professor took responsibility for the flyers and the inappropriate behavior. The individual was suspended, removed from campus and is not permitted to return to campus or participate in any USD-related off-campus events while we conduct our investigation and initiate next steps. The professor has complied with these directives, has not returned to the campus, and to our knowledge, similar inappropriate behavior has not occurred," USD officials said.University officials said they notified San Diego Police upon learning about the threats last week. However, a police spokesperson said they just learned of the threats and opened their investigation today. At 4 p.m., faculty gathered for a meeting with administrators to learn about the situation. About the same time, students gathered in front of the Theology and Religious Studies building, saying they weren’t told about the threats. “The university has a duty and an obligation to protect public image. They have probably legal obligations, I'm assuming. But they also have an obligation to the student body. They have an obligation to make sure that we feel safe, that when I walk on this campus I'm aware if something's taken place that's put my safety or my professor's safety in danger,” said senior Alexa Withrow. A campus-wide email was sent out later Wednesday afternoon, telling students, "the Department of Public Safety and the San Diego Police Department were immediately contacted, an investigation was initiated and a communication was sent to the College faculty."Counseling was made available to students.One of the USD professors received a temporary restraining order against Associate Professor Louis Komjathy. The documents name Komjathy as the one responsible for the threats and say he was upset about a promotion he was denied. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego officials are offering a new location to help temporarily shelter migrants seeking asylum.The city says it has identified a new property to use as a shelter since its current temporary shelter doesn't have the occupancy for long-term sheltering, in a letter to California's Office of Emergency Services."The county recently vacated the Camp Barrett youth correctional facility in Alpine. The facility is already classified for residential occupancy and therefore does not require significant alteration to be used as a shelter," Robert Vacchi, deputy chief operating officer of San Diego's Neighborhood Services, wrote.RELATED: Exclusive look inside San Diego shelter for migrant asylum seekersCamp Barrett was closed in October following years of steadily decreasing populations at the county's in-custody facilities, according to the county. The remaining population was relocated to a Urban Camp facility in Kearny Mesa. Vacchi writes the property could be leased to the state or third-party on a temporary basis to use as a shelter for asylum-seeking migrants.The Alliance Healthcare Foundation has agreed to fund the operation of a facility, according to Vacchi, and the city has been in talks with the agency to secure shelter operations.The city is facing a Feb. 4 deadline to vacate the current shelter being used for migrant asylum seekers. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Humane Society has placed 140 rats up for adoption after they were given up by a woman in Del Mar this week.The rats have undergone veterinary exams and tests and are "happy and ready" for adoption, the Humane Society says. Because rats are social animals, the society is only adopting them out in same-gender pairs unless the owner already has a rat.The rodents were given to SDHS after a woman's pet rats multiplied out of control while she was living out of her vehicle in Del Mar. The population eventually grew to more than 300 pet rats. The rats chewed through the vehicle's wiring, rendering it inoperable.RELATED: Del Mar neighbors aid woman living in car with 300 pet ratsNeighbors have since rallied around the woman, helping her tow her old vehicle, get a new car, and turn over the rats to SDHS. Many of the rats were pregnant females and are currently in foster care through the Humane Society. The 140 rats available now are males and non-pregnant females, according to SDHS."Although rats are not as common as other small rodents, they make great pets," SDHS said. "They are very social, smart and love to interact with humans ... SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Rancho San Diego Elementary School Wednesday experienced a water outage as a result of vandalism and theft to pipework. The crime occurred overnight and was discovered as staff entered campus for work Wednesday morning. Maintenance staff repaired the pipework and restored water to campus in three hours. Staff provided students with water during the outage. Hand sanitizer and baby wipes were also given out. 438

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police have released a sketch of an attempted homicide suspect they say tried to rob a man at Emerald Hills Park last month.On July 11 at about 2 p.m., a 23-year-old man was at Emerald Hills Park when an unknown suspect tried to grab his cell phone from a park table. A fight started between the man and suspect before the suspect displayed a box cutter and told the man, "I am going to kill you," police said.The suspect stabbed the man in the left arm with the box cutter and strangled the man, before fleeing the scene. The suspect was last seen walking into a canyon near KeltonRoad and State Route 94.The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and was treated for the cut to his left arm requiring 18 staples.The suspect was described as a Black male, about 40 years old, standing about 6-feet tall, and weighing 170 pounds. He has a thin mustache and goatee, and had "Jaundice" or yellowing to the white portion of his eyes, police said.
