A Detroit 2-year-old born with Spina Bifida has defied the odds and taken her first steps without a walker.A video, which has been shared thousands of times on Facebook, Skylar Turner taking her first steps into her father's arms without her walker.Shawn and Unissa Turner say Skylar is beating the odds and proving to everyone that she will walk."It was amazing," Shawn Turner said. "It was unreal because this is the moment you always wish for."At just two years old, Skylar has already endured more than most girls her age."When you’re told that your child has a birth defect before they come out, it changes your whole outlook on life," Shawn Turner said. Spina Bifida is a birth defect where the spinal cord doesn’t fully develop, making it difficult for those affected to walk.At first, Unissa Turner took Skyler's diagnosis really hard, and says she still tends to blame herself."I do still feel that it’s my fault, but I know it’s not," she said. "But, I definitely took it really hard."A determined toddler, Skylar wasn’t going to let her condition stop her from taking her first steps, or even dancing. She loves Taylor Swift and dances when one of her songs is on.The special moment of Skylar trying to walk to her father, not once, not twice – but three times, until eventually making it into his arms was all caught on camera. A Detroit woman is speaking out after a local business owner used the "N word" to shame her national anthem protest on Facebook.Stacey Graham is a Lions season ticket holder. She's been sitting for the national anthem since last year because she disagrees with the third verse of the "Star Spangled Banner," which mentions slavery.Graham attended the Lions' game on Sunday, and again sat for the anthem. Later that day picture of her protest showed up on Facebook that  included the caption, “you wanna sit down for the national anthem? You don’t like out country the get the “f***k” outtt”  The post also included the words “Ignorant N*****s” over the picture. The post was written by David Doptis who owns a business in Pontiac, Michigan called Restaurant Liquidation Auctions. Efforts to reach Doptis by home and at his home in Bloomfield Township were not successful.  925

A fire broke out at Trump Tower on Saturday, leaving one man dead and six firefighters injured, the New York City Fire Department said.Police identified the man killed as Todd Brassner, 67, a resident of the building's 50th floor. A federal judge in Texas is set to hear arguments on whether he should end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, a case that could tee up a fast track for the issue to hit the Supreme Court this fall.District Judge Andrew Hanen, a George W. Bush appointee, will hear arguments from seven states that sued over DACA, a program that protects from deportation young undocumented immigrants who came to the US as children.
