OCEANSIDE (CNS) - An electronic device that can bring down drone aircraft, presumably as they interfere with emergency firefighting planes and police helicopters, has been obtained by Oceanside police, it was reported Saturday.Oceanside police and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department were among the first police agencies to acquire a "Drone Killer" from IXI Technology, a Yorba Linda company that supplies electronic equipment to the U.S. armed forces, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported Saturday. Deputies deployed the anti-drone device at the 2017 Rose Parade.IXI Technology agreed to donate the ,000 drone-incapacitating weapon to Oceanside police and made a presentation to the Oceanside City Council on March 28, the Union-Tribune reported."The purpose is primarily for emergency situations," Oceanside police Lt. Aaron Doyle told the newspaper. "It won't be used when someone complains about a neighbor flying a drone. It's pretty much for a life-or-death situation, to save lives."Drones can force authorities to ground air operations to avoid collisions. That's what happened in December during the Lilac fire, when aerial firefighting had to be called off for more than an hour due to a drone in the area. The device can be pointed at a drone in the air and will cut off communication between it and its operator, the Union-Tribune reported. A drone targeted by the device will either hover in place, return to the place it was launched or simply land, depending on its programming. The device can disable most drone models, IXI Technology's Andy Morabe told the Union-Tribune. When the drone killer encounter's a drone it can't stop, the company plans to rewrite software to remedy the problem within days, Morabe said. 1754

You likely aren't planning to visit Chernobyl any time soon, but that doesn't have to mean you can't get a taste of it. A team of scientists from the UK and Ukraine have created a vodka distilled from rye grown in the exclusion zone near the site of Chernobyl's nuclear power plant. It's also made from water pulled from the area's aquifer. So, would you be insane to drink what they are calling 'Atomik' vodka? The makers say no, and that it’s perfectly safe to drink. The scientists, however, admit the grain starts out radioactive but claim the distillation process removes the dangerous isotopes. They even say they had a university lab run tests to ensure the vodka was safe to drink. They are hoping to release the vodka to the public in limited supply, where it will have to compete with liquors that were never radioactive. The Chernobyl Spirit Company says it will donate 75 percent of its profits to people who still live in the area. 956

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The clock is ticking as family members of Suzanne Johnson wait to see if Governor Jerry Brown will grant clemency before he leaves office Monday. Six-month-old Jasmine Miller died while under the care of Johnson at her home daycare center in North Park in 1997. Johnson found guilty of assaulting Jasmine and sentenced to life in prison. Prosecutors argued Johnson was frustrated by the baby's crying, pointing to the accepted signs of Shaken Baby Syndrome: Bleeding behind the eyes, and bleeding and swelling in the brain."We've seen a major shift in the science of Shaken Baby Syndrome," said Mike Semanchik, managing attorney with the California Innocence Project at California Western School of Law.According to Semanchik, "based on the science we know now, the jury at the time would not have found Suzanne Johnson guilty." Medical consensus now says those telltale signs of shaken baby syndrome can be caused by various medical conditions and accidental falls from short heights.Johnson says Jasmine fell out of her high chair but seemed okay, before becoming unresponsive hours later."The evidence supports an equal theory for a fall, as it does for an intentional act," said Semanchik. The science has not been enough to persuade the courts. All appeals for a new trial have been rejected."Missing her has been pretty horrific," said Sharon Johnson, Suzanne's daughter-in-law. She describes her mother-in-law as a loving woman who has remained positive, leading bible study and other groups in prison. She's up for parole in 2020, but Sharon hopes a petition for clemency on the governor's desk will be granted."She's 74. She's been wrongly incarcerated for 20 years. We just want her home," said Sharon Johnson. Semanchik says new evidence also shows paramedics forced a breathing tube down the baby's esophagus rather than her windpipe, an error that could have contributed to her death.A spokesperson for the District Attorney's office says they are in touch with Jasmine's family and remain opposed to the clemency petition.Former District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis, who did not support arguments for a new trial, has submitted a letter in support of the clemency petition."She has done well in prison. She is no longer a threat to society. I support her being let out one year early," said Dumanis. 2338

View this post on Instagram I will not be returning for Season 2 of The Rookie. I owe it to you my amazing fans to share the Truth. Throughout the filming of the pilot, I experienced Racial Discrimination/Racially Charged inappropriate comments from the hair department and bullying from Executive Producers. During the Season, it continued along with Sexual Harassment from a recurring guest star and the racist commentary & bullying from the Hair Dept. Head escalated into Sexual Assault at our Wrap party. The Sexual Harassment though reported directly to the Showrunner/EP remained undocumented and was not reported to HR as promised. The Hair Dept. Head was fired ONLY after the sexual assault and NOT for an entire year of outward racism/racially charged language and bullying behavior in and out of the Hair and Makeup trailer. HR protocol was never adhered to following the above reports given by me to my Showrunner/EP and an investigation was never issued for any of my claims. The only time I was asked to participate in an investigation was after a meeting I called in June following our Season 2 announcement. This meeting included the Showrunner and two other producers as well as my agent and SAG-AFTRA Union Rep. It was clear to all present in the meeting that the Showrunner had not shared my reports with the any of the producers. After my initial report of sexual harassment, I was assured that the actor would be fired. I was also asked to film with him the very next day as a courtesy to the script, even though we had not begun filming the episode yet. This actor reappeared on our call sheet at the end of the season, I was even written in scenes with him. I asked the Showrunner about this and he admitted to me that the actor had not been fired nor had he gotten HR involved. I was asked to return this season, and promised that “everything was handled.” The investigation hadn’t even begun and Season 2 had already started filming. I turned it down and I walked. Now is the best time in the world to be a woman and I have a platform so it’s time to use my Voice. Strength comes from within. It comes from Above. “Greater is He that is within Me than he that is in the world” ?????? A post shared by Afton Williamson (@therealaftonw) on Aug 4, 2019 at 1:12am PDT 2307

CHULA VISTA (CNS) - A driver in a stolen car led officers on a pursuit through Chula Vista Saturday before officers were able to apprehend him in a tunnel, an officer said.Police received information Saturday morning that a car had been stolen from El Cajon as part of a burglary, and officers were notified before 10:15 a.m. that the car had been spotted at a home near View Park Way and East Palomar Street, Chula Vista Police Lt. Rusty Rea said. The car left as officers were heading to the house, and a pursuit ensued, with the driver leading officers north onto state Route 125, Rea said. Officers soon backed off as the driver continued to proceed recklessly on the freeway and allowed a police helicopter to keep an eye on him, he said. The car entered the tunnel on the transition road from northbound Route 125 to westbound Route 54 and the helicopter crew did not see it come out the other side, Rea said. Calls from passers-by confirmed the driver had stopped the car inside the tunnel and was trying to get away on foot.Police closed the tunnel and were able to arrest the driver, identified as 25-year-old David Felix. 1143
