SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) - Several people in a San Marcos gated community have reported being targets of package thieves, according to one victim who spoke with 10News. The Sheriff's Department is looking at surveillance video, which appears to provide several leads.Mikayla Manos says a package was sent to her home on Almond Drive Friday.  Manos is a mentor for foster children. The package contained the personal items of one of those children, which she was asked to deliver to him.  When Manos arrived home, she did not see the package.Manos checked with her next-door neighbor, who has a surveillance camera. Video from Friday afternoon shows a girl walking past Manos' home. She turns and points toward Manos' porch and can be heard saying "get it".The video shows what appears to be a boy picking something up from Manos' porch, although the package cannot be clearly seen from the camera angle. At least two voices can be heard off camera. One is heard saying "I can't wait to wear these to school tomorrow." Manos says clothes are among the items stolen.Manos says she knows of at least three other neighbors who were victims.  10News spotted an empty Nordstrom bag ripped open on one neighbor's porch, while another neighbor tells 10News someone stole items from his garage when he briefly left it open around the same time.Several package boxes were found dumped nearby, including Manos'. SEATTLE (AP) — Since September, six sea lions have died from gunshot wounds in central Puget Sound and Kitsap County, Washington.The Seattle Times reports that another seven are suspected to have died from "acute trauma" caused by humans, including a decomposed sea lion with its head sliced off found washed ashore Tuesday in a West Seattle cove.That's according to Seal Sitters Marine Mammal Stranding Network, a group that responds to reports of stranded or dead sea lions.Michael Milstein, a NOAA Fisheries spokesman, has confirmed the deaths of five California sea lions in West Seattle, including four that died of gunshot wounds.NOAA Fisheries law-enforcement agents are investigating these crimes, which are prohibited under the Marine Mammal Protection Act.Between 1998 and 2017, National Geographic reported up to 700 California sea lions were found with gunshot and stab wounds in waters off California, Oregon and Washington. 955

(KGTV) - Business leaders on the U.S. side of the border are worried that President Trump's threat of tariffs against Mexico over illegal immigration could cause a sharp decline in sales.In the week after the president announced his plan to impose a 5 percent tariff on Mexican goods, the peso dropped nearly 4 percent in value. That means it's worth less compared to the U.S. dollar.Local shop owner Sunil Gakhreja, who is also a member of the San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, said 99 percent of his customers come from Mexico. SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) – Two teenaged girls had a frightening encounter with a stranger the parking lot Sportsplex USA Santee Thursday night.“He’s lucky I didn't walk out to minutes earlier,” Beau Branton said. His 14-year-old daughter was one of the girls involved.Branton plays in an adult softball league. Their game finished around 11 p.m. His daughter and her 13-year-old friend were there. After the game, they went to the pickup truck to get warm, while Branton finished up on the field.That’s when a man came over to the teens sitting in the car.“They saw him coming over and when they saw him coming over, they freaked out and locked it," Branton said. "He started yanking on the handle to get in.  When he realized he couldn't get in, he just stood there and didn't say anything, just a blank stare.”After a few seconds, the man seemed to give up and leave.“(My daughter) got out to come get me,” Branton said. “She came out from the truck, and towards the Sportsplex, that’s when (the stranger) came from behind a car and started chasing her.”His daughter got back into the truck in time to watch the man drive away.“He had a hoodie on, backpack,” he said, “cleanly shaven, he had two shaven notches on his eyebrows.  They watched him get into a red minivan and drive away.”San Diego Sheriff's Department said the suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his early 30s, about 5-feet 9-inches tall, and weighing about 170 pounds. He reportedly has short brown hair.He also had two shaved lines through his right eyebrow.The suspect reportedly fled in an early 2000's model, dark, red minivan with faded paint and a sticker on the back window.Deputies are working with the girls to create a sketch of the suspect and are asking any other witnesses to come forward.Lt. Chris Steffen says they are not yet sure of the man's intentions and that he might not have known the girls were in the car. SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KGTV) - The captain of the sister ship to the one that caught fire off the coast of Santa Barbara, killing at least 25, is sticking up for its crew.Ian Higgins is the captain of the Vision, a sister ship nearly identical to the Conception, which caught fire near Santa Cruz island Monday morning. Higgins spoke to 10News after media reports calling the safety protocol of the Conception into question."That vessel is inspected by the Coast Guard annually and also every five years for a more complete inspection," said Higgins, who works for Truth Aquatics. "If you think the Coast Guard would allow a vessel carrying that many passengers to operate without any type of fire suppression system, I don’t know what one would believe."RELATED: 20 bodies recovered from boat fire off coast of Southern California, officials sayRecords show the Conception had no issues after a Coast Guard inspection in February. Higgins said any report that the passengers were locked in the ship is patently false. He said passengers are given safety briefings the morning after they get on the ship.
