SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Some local drivers hoping to earn some extra cash are turning to peer-to-peer shipping.Kuazine King owns his own production company specializing in hip hop.  Business is good, but he still needs to supplement his income.  The problem?"I'm always on the road.  I have artists ... I need something that gives me ultimate flexibility but also good pay," said King.Ten months ago, King signed up to drive for Roadie, a peer-to-peer shipping app that launched in San Diego about a year ago.  The Atlanta-based company matches people and businesses with stuff to send, with drivers headed their direction.On a recent morning, 10News stopped by King's home in Del Cerro and watched as he scrolled through a list of delivery jobs.  After a few seconds, he chose one.  Delta Airlines needed someone to pick up a bag from Lindbergh Field."I'm going to take it to Carlsbad for ," said King.10news rode along as he headed to the airport picked up his package from the Delta office.  It was a surfboard, one of two airport pickups he got that morning, both bound for North County.King says on a given day, he can complete about six deliveries and earn about 0.  He likes the pay and the power over his schedule."Uber is flexible, but this is the ultimate flexibility," said King."The whole idea is to tap into unused space already on the road to make delivery more efficient, more cost effective, more sustainable and faster than any other delivery method," said Jamie Gottlieb, Content Manager at Roadie.King says all that adds up to another perk: happy work days.        "I don't think I've ever delivered to a person who hasn't been happy to get their bags.  They're always happy!" said King. 1795

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - South Bay summer fun kicks off Memorial Day weekend, this season with an energy-efficient edge.SeaWorld's Aquatica waterpark will welcome thrill seekers and beach bums back to the park for the season on May 25, with attractions such as the Big Surf Shores wave pool, the Loggerhead Lane lazy river, and Tassie's Twister slide.This season's action will also harness the power of the sun with the park's new solar panel system. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's LGBT community center, The Center, says it will not allow armed, uniformed officers at its facility or events.The announcement comes less than a week after San Diego Pride said it would not allow law enforcement to participate in the parade or events.The Center's Board of Directors voted that starting Tuesday, armed, uniformed law enforcement officers will not be allowed at the facility or future events unless its a last resort or true emergency, according to CEO Cara Dessert.RELATED: San Diego Pride: No law enforcement agency contingents in Parade, Festival"This is not about good or bad individual law enforcement officers, but rather a systemic problem in law enforcement that devalues Black lives and creates an environment in which our Black community does not feel welcomed, and in fact strikes fear and trauma," Dessert wrote, in part. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Sophie Felix may be petite, but there is nothing small about the way she approaches living and giving -- and it all started with her grandparents."Growing up, my Grandmother and my Grandpa Augie used to be foster parents so from a very young age I understood it's very important to give back to children in need," says Felix.Nine years ago, Sophie says she felt compelled to reach out to the Encinitas-based group, Passion 4 K.I.D.S. which stands for Kids In Desperate Situations. The group helps improve the lives of handicapped, neglected and underprivileged children.Through founders Linda and Charles Van Kessler, Sophie met Izaiah Wallis and his family. Izaiah has been unable to walk or talk since he was hit by a drunk driver at age one, 10 years ago.Sophie started out by planning special experiences for the family including securing sponsorships for trips to Disneyland and Seaworld as well as handicapped accessible gear such as a van --- and Sophie was just getting started. A mom herself, she became the chapter president of America's Children of Fallen Heroes. Off-roading adventure in a custom jeep is just one part of what the group does. A bigger part is providing the kids with a 10-year mentorship program so they can pursue anything and realize their dreams.Sophie says that is very important to her because she herself is living her American dream. In addition to her charity work, Sophie runs her own business, HBM Talent and Management, and she spreads her passion to every client she signs."That is part of our deal. They have to volunteer for at least 2 charity events per year," she says.Those clients, including former NASCAR driver Felix Giles, are happy to do it. If all that weren't enough, Sophie also makes sure a local brother and sister, whose mother can't afford Christmas presents, get presents every year.Sophie says her work with kids brings her, "indescribable joy, inspiration, happy tears, hope, faith" because she knows this is her purpose.Sophie's charity mentor Linda Van Kessler says Sophie has a heart of gold --- a heart that just gets bigger and bigger because of what she feels every time she helps a child. 2193
