The trend in America’s Finest City sits opposite the national trend, which is seeing a declining inventory. The national drop in inventory in the fourth quarter of 2018 was mainly driven by a drop in for-sale homes, however, in San Diego, the total for-sale inventory rose by more than 27 percent. San Diego’s trade-up inventory saw the largest increase at more than 46 percent. The report points out that, despite inventory gains in San Diego, prices continue to rise, outpacing wage growth. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Family members are mourning the COVID-related death of an Olympic gold medalist and lifelong San Diegan.More than 4 decades ago, Arnie Robinson Jr. stood at the top of the Olympic podium."He was always so driven and so focused," said Arnie Robinson Jr.'s son, PaulPaul says his father first started feeling sick in mid-November."Labored breathing, coughing," said Paul.Robinson Jr. tested positive for coronavirus but after a week and a half, he started feeling better. A week later, on December 2, he was with a caregiver at this Skyline Hills home."Out of the blue, he struggled to take breaths," said Paul.That day, Robinson Jr. passed away at his home at the age of 72."You’re just in a state of shock and disbelief over how it happened," said Paul.It was disbelief and grief over a father and local sports legend.A high school track star at Morse High, Robinson Jr. went to San Diego Mesa College and San Diego State University, before winning a bronze medal in the long jump at the 1972 Olympics and a gold medal at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal."I think that’s one of the things that drove him. Wanting to achieve something really, really big ... setting it out there and making it happen," said Paul.That commitment was his calling card. He served in the Army and later, worked a track coach at Mesa College for three decades.In 2004, he was diagnosed with brain cancer, a grade 4 glioblastoma and given six months to live. He went through several round of chemo and radiation."After some research, a complete 180 on his diet. Looking back on it now, he saw it as another challenge," said Paul.Some 16 years later, he was in remission when he tested positive for COVID-19. Paul believes he contracted it from one of his caregivers, who also tested positive.His message to others: wear masks and take every precaution."Respect COVID for what it is. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Home sales in San Diego County accelerated in July after declining on an annual basis for more than a year.New data from real-estate tracker CoreLogic shows 3,988 home sales in July, up 10.1 percent from July 2018. That marks the first time since April 2018 that home sales in the county did not decline on an annual basis, when seasonal factors do not impact the data. Meanwhile, the median price for a home sold in the county remained flat over the year at 0,000. In June, the average rate for a 30-year-fixed mortgage fell to 3.8 percent, according to Freddie Mac. That was the first time the rate was below 4 percent since Dec. 2017. It ticked down even lower in July to 3.77 percent. Mark Goldman, a loan officer with C2 Financial, said the lower rates likely helped people increase their buying power by 2 to 3 percent. "That same house is going to cost a little bit less, and help you afford more," he said. "A lot of times when market gives you something like lower rates, the market takes it back in the form of higher prices, and we’re not really seeing that."Goldman said there is less speculation in the market due to concerns that it has leveled off. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Documents show the man accused of pummeling a teenage Syrian refugee on a trolley car has a history of run-ins with authorities.On Oct. 15, Adrian Vergara was accused of the crime after approaching the teen and asking him if he's Mexican."He responded, no I am Arab. He does not speak a lot of English, and with that response the person began to pummel him in the face," Geneviéve Jones-Wright, Legal Director, Partnership for the Advancement of New Americans, said.Tuesday, San Diego Police said they had arrested Vergara on suspicion of assault with force and violation of civil rights.RELATED: Man accused of attacking Syrian refugee aboard trolley car arrested10News dug into Vergara's background and found a history of violent incidents. In 2012, court documents say Vergara threatened a man with a billy club. He did community service in the South Metro Career Center. A letter says he worked well there with special needs students as well as general students. I don't care about my life."
