SHANGHAI, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- China has allowed the Bank of East Asia (BEA) to issue yuan-denominated bonds in Hong Kong for a second time, about three years after it became the first foreign-invested bank to make a yuan bond issuance, the bank said Wednesday.BEA China Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the BEA, was given the approval by the National Development and Reform Commission of China to issue yuan bonds in Hong Kong, it said.Details on the amounts and timing of the offerings weren't available. In 2009, in a major landmark, the BEA issued its first yuan bonds in Hong Kong in an aggregate principal amount of 4 billion yuan (630 million U.S. dollars).The BEA was among the first foreign-invested banks to be given the green light to issue yuan-denominated bonds in Hong Kong, a move analysts say will bolster the international influence of the Chinese currency, also known as renminbi.Sun Minjie, deputy head of BEA China, said the second bond issuance will give the bank stable access to capital, improve its debt portfolio, and support its development on the Chinese mainland.

TAIYUAN, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- China successfully launched the Ziyuan III satellite Monday from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in northern Shanxi province.The satellite, a high-resolution remote-sensing satellite for civilian use, was launched at 11:17 a.m. aboard a Long March 4B rocket, according to a statement from the center.The satellite, weighing 2650 kg, entered an orbit of 500 km above the Earth about 12 minutes after it was launched. It has a designed life expectancy of five years.According to the center, the satellite is tasked with offering services to aid the country's land-resources surveys, natural-disaster prevention, agriculture development, water-resources management, and urban planning.The rocket also carried a satellite from Luxemburg, according to the launch center.The orbiter was developed and produced by the China Academy of Space Technology, a subsidiary of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC).The Long March 4B rocket is developed by Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology, another CASC subsidiary. Monday's mission marked the 156th flight of China's Long March series of carrier rockets.

BEIJING, Dec. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Restrictions on housing purchases in this city will continue next year without relaxation despite expected falls in property prices so far, local officials said on Friday. Even so, a property tax is unlikely to be put into effect for Beijing, they said.This year, the average price of commercial housing units stopped rising in July and so far has been lowered by 6.3 percent below what it had been in the same period last year. Of all of those who bought property in the 11 months of the year, 90 percent were first-time buyers, said an announcement released by the Beijing Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development."The restrictions worked well this year," said Wang Rongwu, with the commission, at a news conference on Friday morning. "But keeping the property market sound will require prolonged restrictions. Our specific goals for the purchase limits next year are still under discussion."Chen Baocun, deputy secretary-general of the National Real Estate Manager Alliance, said property developers will be able to cope with an extension of the limits."Developers didn't expect a sudden drop of the purchase restrictions next year," he said. "They are prepared to accept the policies for a longer time."In an attempt at tamping down property prices, the central government took time at the country's central economic work conference on Wednesday to encourage more cities to adopt a property tax. YICHANG, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- China's Three Gorges Dam on Sunday reached its designed highest mark, the second time for the world's largest water control and hydropower project to run at full capacity.The water level hit 175 meters at 5 p.m. after storing water for nearly two months from the water level of 152 meters, said an official with the China Three Gorges Project Corporation (CTGPC), the developer of the project.A dozen hydropower turbo-generator units started operation on Sunday, generating power capacity of 8.2 million kw, said the official.The dam in central China's Hubei Province completed its first full-capacity test last October.Operating at full capacity should give full play to the dam's functions of generating hydroelectric power, delivering water to the lower reaches to alleviate spring droughts, and containing water from summer flooding, as required by the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters.The Three Gorges Project was launched in 1993 with a budget equivalent to 22.5 billion U.S. dollars.So far, monitoring shows the dam is operating smoothly.
