(KGTV) — Encinitas officials announced a "one-of-a-kind" crosswalk has been placed across Coast Highway 101 in downtown.Officials say the artistic crosswalk featuring surfboard shapes and waves spans across the highway at G Street and took two years of coordination between city staff and City Council to put together. The city says the crosswalk will improve walkability and bring more public art to the area.Artist Steffen Vala, whose work has appeared around the globe and been featured by Apple, Marvel, and other big brands, was commissioned for the crosswalk."The iconography of surfboard shapes is a nod to each surfer's 'magic board,' unique to them like their fingerprint. Juxtaposing this individualism is a unifying tidal wave laid out like the ocean's fingerprint that connects all the surfboards. This symbolizes the unifying, collective, 'party wave' we are all riding and our love in protecting the environment while celebrating our differences," the city said in a release.The city says the crosswalk is the longest decorative crosswalk of its kind and first one across a historic highway. 1132

They are filled with residents like Suzanne Bridges."I get up at 4 in the morning; I’m here by 4:30,” she explained.Bridges and all the others in line are waiting for a necessity to live.“Water. Water is the main source in my home. We drink a lot of it,” Bridges said.When asked if she trusts the water that flows from her faucets and shower in her home, her answer is clear.“No,” she said.Throughout the day, the line of cars continues to grow. As it stretches down the street and around the block, it becomes clear how the Flint water crisis continues to live on.“As you can see, the lines after five years are still very, very long, and the need does not seem to get any better,” said resident Sandra Jones.Every week, Jones is at the front of the line.She runs the RL Jones Community Center, which hands out cases of bottled water to people who live in the City of Flint.“I’ve seen it all because I’m out here with them, and if you don’t have a heart, I don’t even understand. Where is the compassion?” Jones said.Jones was in Flint in 2014 when the water crisis started. The city’s water supply was switched to the Flint River to save money.Aging pipes contaminated the water, exposing around 100,000 people to elevated levels of lead. We’re working with the local city, as well as the state,” Wheeler said. “We’re still providing bottled drinking water to people if they need it, but at this point, the water quality in Flint, Michigan is safe to drink.”But in Flint, trust in the water and the government has run dry.“Even though they say it’s safe to drink, we still are afraid of drinking the water,” said Steven Atkins, a Flint resident."It’s something that we have to have. It’s important that we need it, but now we just can’t trust it,” said resident VanNessa Taylor.In August, the state of Michigan agreed to a 0 million settlement with those impacted by the water crisis, and 80 percent of the money will go to children.Jones says that money will only go so far. Transparency must bring back trust.“That’s where we are,” she said. “This was a marriage and you cheated on me for your benefit, not for my benefit.”Jones says the pandemic has made giving bottled water away even more difficult. She’s faced a shortage of volunteers to give away the water to the cars that come through. She says the lines grow outside her community center each week, six years after the Flint water crisis first began.However, Jones says she will continue to fill trunk after trunk until the cars no longer need to come through.“This city has got to get back whole again. ENCINITAS (CNS) - A cyclist was killed Saturday when he collided with a vehicle at an Encinitas intersection, authorities said.The collision happened at about 11:49 a.m. when a cyclist was struck by a vehicle that was turning right from westbound Leucadia Boulevard to Moonstone Court, according to Deputy Eric Rader of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.Bystanders gave medical aid to the victim, Rader said.The injured cyclist was taken by ambulance to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, where he died of his injuries, the deputy said.Deputies with the department's Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team are investigating the accident. 652

(KGTV) - With studies showing San Diegans are spending more time than ever stuck in traffic, we're listening and looking for answers to your travel headaches.A new technology being hailed as a "game changer" by some experts takes aims at those achy, tiresome commutes.  Cadillac's Super Cruise, the only hands-free semi-autonomous driving feature on the highways, is now on local roads. 10News reporter Michael Chen went to North County Cadillac and took a long for a test drive in the CT6 sedan on I-15.Once on the highway, the feature was activated with the push of a button on the steering wheel.  The feature allows the driver to go feet- and hands-free as long as you stay in one lane. "If someone slows down in front of me, it will slow down our speed," said Drew Doran.While other driver-assistance systems use cameras to center a car, Doran says General Motors has extensive laser mapping of US highways that leads to better accuracy."It actually knows what is ahead of the vehicle," said Doran.  On the hour-long drive, we tracked every curve and every time, it stayed in the center of the lane. The driver still expected to be on standby.  A camera on the steering wheel watches for distractions.  If the driver is doing something like reading and blocking that camera, it will warn the driver.When we blocked the camera, a green light flashed - the first of several alerts - before Super Cruise disengaged.  Doran says he recently went on a trip to Los Angeles with his wife.  He says he used Super Cruise for about 80% of a drive that left him feeling relaxed.    "Not the usual back pain.  I actually felt wonderful," said Doran.The Cadillac CT6 will cost you about ,000, but industry experts says GM could deploy the well-received Super Cruise in vehicles priced around ,000 starting next year.AUTONOMOUS VS.
