ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) -- It's official, a revamp is coming to the Escondido Country Club. The Escondido City Council voted 3-2 Wednesday night. This means they will move forward with "The Villages" development on the 109 acres of former Escondido Country Club land.The country club was closed years ago when purchased by a new owner with plans to build 380 homes. FALLBROOK, Calif. (KGTV) — San Diego Sheriff's deputies were investigating a deadly shooting in Fallbrook on Saturday.SDSO homicide detectives were called to the 700 block of Convertible Lane just after 12 p.m. for reports of gunshots by neighbors.Deputies arrived to find an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) - The oldest tree at North County’s San Diego Botanic Garden is finding new life as a work of art.The Eucalyptus cladocalyx was planted 100 years ago at the Encinitas garden. It had to be euthanized last year because it was leaning and posing a threat to visitors, officials said.Artist Erwin Young “Mitch” Mitchell IV took the 30-foot stump and transformed it into a replica of a baobab tree. He expects to be finished this week."The Garden is a wonderful place, not only to visit, but to create such a great endeavor there is fantastic - I appreciate the opportunity," said Mitchell. "It is the first time I have ever changed a tree into another tree. ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - Escondido Police requested the public’s assistance Monday to find the driver responsible of a crash that seriously injured a motorcyclist. The incident happened Oct. 16 at 4:38 p.m. in the 200 block of W. Washington Ave., police said. A man driving a white Ford F-150 pickup truck struck the motorcyclist and left the scene, according to investigators. Police said the man was in his late 30s, Hispanic, and had a mustache. He was wearing a gray shirt and baseball cap. There was a woman in the passenger seat and a child sitting between them. The first two digits on the license plate may be 8F. Police said the Ford F-150 will have damage to the rear passenger side tail light and tailgate. But critics say there is vague guidance for what happens if there is a school outbreak.As states across the country weigh the risks of reopening schools this fall, the message from the White House has been loud and clear.Last week, President Donald Trump stated he would like schools to reopen, stating, “Yeah, I would like to see the schools opened, open 100 percent.”Most doctors, educators, and psychologists agree that going back to school would be in the best interest of students. But what happens if just one student contracts the coronavirus? Would that force a shutdown?Some health experts are wary.“Once you start getting into dozens, or even more kids and teachers starting to get infected, it's going to be very hard to keep that school open, said Dr. Ashish Jha, a professor of medicine and the director of Harvard University’s Global Health Institute.“We have to have really smart planning and we have to have a clear protocol for how to identify kids and teachers and staff who get infected and then know what to do when we identify them.
