(KGTV) — Thousands of passengers remained stranded on a cruise ship off the San Francisco coastline Saturday, after 21 people aboard tested positive for the new coronavirus this week.The Grand Princess cruise ship said they are awaiting direction from state and local health officials about where they will be allowed to port. Gavin Newsom has previously said officials will work to identify all potential COVID-19 patients aboard before deciding how to bring the ship to shore.Late Friday, gloves and face masks were delivered to the ship by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter. Earlier the same day, the National Guard delivered testing kits and supplies.In the U.S., 11 people have died from the virus and at least 400 cases have been reported. (KGTV) - Wait times at Southern California Department of Motor Vehicles offices have some drivers traveling hundreds of miles to avoid long lines.The DMV in the high desert town of Needles has some of the shortest lines in the state, KABC reported. When a news crew arrived at 10:30 a.m. Monday, there were only two people waiting in line."It's really nice. Not like back at home in L.A. County," one customer said to KABC.RELATED: New system and REAL ID to blame for long DMV linesAlthough the DMV's long lines are infamous, the situation worsened when the DMV started processing information for California’s REAL ID. The modified license will be required for travel in some states and access to secure federal facilities after October 1, 2020.A spokesperson for the DMV said the agency is monitoring wait times at all 172 field offices across the state."Generally speaking, the busiest offices tend to be the ones located in major metropolitan areas," spokesperson Jaime Garza said to KABC. "Offices in the rural areas tend to be less crowded."RELATED: California DMV now taking applications for REAL IDTo improve the wait times in San Diego, the DMV recently extended hours at several local offices and added Saturday hours. There are also self-service kiosks to speed up the process.A recent check of wait times at the Hillcrest DMV showed customers with appointments waiting 15 minutes for services. Those without appointments had a wait of two hours and 20 minutes. San Ysidro, Poway, San Marcos and Chula Vista had the longest wait times. A 19-year-old Central Michigan University student who police say shot his parents to death inside of his dorm room Friday morning used his father’s handgun.James Eric Davis, Jr.’s father was a part-time police officer in the Chicago suburb of Bellwood, Illinois. Davis’ parents, Diva and James Davis Sr., had drove through the night to pick up their son from a local hospital and bring him home for spring break after CMU police had committed him the night before.While Davis’ parents were in his dorm packing up his belongings, CMU Police Chief Bill Yeagley said video surveillance confirms that Davis walked from the parking lot to the fourth floor of Campbell Hall with a gun in his hand.After he shot his parents to death, Davis ran from the campus and headed north along the railroad tracks. The campus was placed on lockdown while more than 100 police officers from multiple agencies swept the area. Davis was arrested 16 hours later without incident on the road, just off the tracks, and the gun used in the murder was found on him, police said. A train operator had called police to alert them of a man standing on the tracks around midnight."The danger that our community has experienced over the last 24 hours or so is now over," said Yeagley in a press conference Saturday morning.Davis remains hospitalized and is being treated for hypothermia.Events leading up to murder CMU police detailed the events leading up to the fatal shooting Friday morning, painting a picture of a distressed young man.On Thursday evening, around 9:45 p.m. Davis went to the CMU community police officer who patrols the residence halls. He was frightened and incoherent, telling the officer that a person with a gun and a warrant for murder, was after him.Davis told the officer that he had just shared an elevator with the person who wanted to harm him, but when police reviewed surveillance video of the elevator ride, Davis and the person appeared to be laughing and not in confrontation. Police spoke with the person who Davis identified and said there was no registered weapon. He was released and Davis assured police he was feeling more secure.A few hours later, around 1:15 a.m., as the police officer was dealing with another issue in the dorm room, he saw Davis with bags and suitcases. The officer approached Davis to see if he was OK, but he said Davis was not reasonable or speaking logically.The officer asked Davis to call his parents, and spoke with Davis’ mother Diva. He told Diva that he thought Davis may have been on drugs and the officer and Diva agreed to take Davis to the hospital to be checked out, according to Yeagley.Meanwhile Diva said she and her husband would be there first thing in the morning. That’s when they picked up Davis from the hospital and took him to the dorms to pack up.Roommates locked in room during shootingSeveral of Davis’ roommates locked themselves in a room of the dorm during the murder. A CMU student texted his mother in Detroit and said, “ma, I think my roommate just shot his mom,” a distraught woman said Friday.Her son told her that another roommate ran in the bedroom and locked the door because he said there was gunfire in the common area.“I just told him to stay in his dorm and when the police did finally come to get them out, he said the father was across his bedroom door, I guess he had to step over him,” she said, holding back tears.RELATED STORIES: 3440

(WNEP/CNN) -- A Pennsylvania mother and a father are charged with endangering the welfare of their two children in Lackawanna County.Investigators say the two children were knowingly left alone in the town of Dunmore for nearly three days while the mother was in Florida.Nicole Sciortino, 30, and Vincent Licciardello, 30, were both arraigned Monday morning on those neglect charges.Sciortino told police that she didn't realize it was against the law to leave her two children home alone unsupervised for an extended period of time and added that she, "didn't think it was really that bad."According to court papers, on Wednesday, March 7, Dunmore police responded to the home on Monroe Avenue after receiving a report of children who had been left alone for weeks.When officers arrived, they found a 10 year old and an 11 year old home by themselves. Police say the place was in deplorable condition, with food, boxes, pills, and other trash on the floor. The thermostat read 58 degrees.Police were able to contact the mother of the two children, Nicole Sciortino. She first told them she wasn't far away, but later admitted to police that she was in Florida. She told investigators that the children's father, Vincent Licciardello, who lives elsewhere, was watching the kids.During the investigation, police found that on Monday, March 5, Licciardello dropped the kids off at their mother's house early in the morning. Over the next three days, while their mother was in Florida, he would occasionally stop by to drop food off for the unsupervised children.WNEP-TV spoke with a few people who work in the area, who were floored to hear about the accusations.At the time of the investigation, police say one child had missed 16 days of school, while the other had missed 26 days since the start of the school year."That hurts. I'm a mom of five kids. I couldn't imagine leaving my kids for 10 minutes without an adult supervisor," said Tamra Murphy. "Who's feeding them? Who's washing their clothes? Who's making sure their homework is done? That upsets me beyond it. That hurts me.""That's insane to me," said Kaylia Riley. "I mean, at the end of the day, I couldn't even leave my dogs for three days by themselves, let alone children, especially small children. It's just mind-blowing."Sciortino and Licciardello were both charged Monday with endangering the welfare of children. Both were given ,000 unsecured bail, so both walked free.Investigators tell us the two children are staying with family friends through child youth services.  2563
