ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - A retired Escondido homeowner is figuring out how she'll pay for Thanksgiving dinner after everything she bought for the holiday was spoiled during a power outage.On a fixed income, Carol Marbrey purchased the meal at the beginning of the month.“I was never warned that my electric would be turned off, and then I was told it would be on by 7:30 AM, then I was told it would be on by noon, and this is all online, and then I was told it would five at night.”Marbrey came home that night to a dark house; power wasn't restored until the next day.The outage happened earlier this week during the extreme wind conditions and Red Flag Warning countywide.San Diego Gas & Electric says some customers weren't warned because it was a fluid situation, with weather conditions changing by the hour.  A spokesperson tells 10News after power is shut off, technicians must inspect hundreds of miles of lines before turning them back on.Marbrey says she called the company several times to understand the situation.“I was getting different answers as to why our electric was not going on," said Marbrey.An SDG&E spokesperson tells 10News they encountered an issue trying to re-energize Marbrey's circuit, by then it was getting dark, and they had to wait until the following day.Marbrey says she understands the necessity to keep the community safe but wishes she’d been better informed.She knows her situation could be a lot worse.“Our hearts really go out to those people that really suffered; we really respect the fire department, the electrical people that are on the ground, the maintenance people, everyone that's doing their best to keep us safe.”Marbrey estimates they lost 0 to 0 in spoiled food. Her efforts to get reimbursed by SDG&E have been unsuccessful so far.SDG&E says they generally don't reimburse spoiled food during an extreme weather situation, but that customers can still try and make a claim. 1967

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - The North County finally has its own comedy club. The Grand Comedy Club opened on Grand Avenue in Escondido late in 2019 and reports growing crowds over its first 10 weeks. "I think people need a good laugh, nowadays. It's really great to see people leaving here happy and telling their friends, and their friends refer their friends. It's great to bring something back to my hometown that the locals really dig and have fun at," said owner Adam Wasserman.Wasserman is a property manager who has performed as a part-time stand up comedian for 11 years. He began thinking of starting his own club, and wanted it to be in Escondido. "You had to go downtown or La Jolla to go to shows. It's a long way to go and and parking and everything. I always thought 'Why was there never a club here in North County?'" Wasserman said.The headliners are typically brought in from Los Angeles, while many of the supporting acts are comedians from San Diego. Wasserman says they're seeing ticket sales from across North County. "We have several nice restaurants, but after you have dinner, that's it. There's nowhere to go," said Escondido resident Jacqueline Lawhorn. "At least now you can come here and enjoy a night of comedy."The opening of the Grand Comedy Club is just the latest step in Escondido's attempt to revitalize its downtown area and make it into more of destination spot. The hope is to give locals an option to spend their money closer to home, and to draw people from neighboring cities into Escondido businesses."You'd have to go to La Jolla or Orange County or whatever," said attendee Gary Arant, who has already gone to several shows at the club. (KGTV) - Día de los Muertos came alive Friday night at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido.Dozens of families came to build memorial altars known as “ofrendas.” While many honored ancestors, the Fallbrook Youth Advocacy Coalition along with the North Inland Community Prevention Program came to honor those taken too soon. “We just want to prevent more families from having this event or having an experience of losing a loved one,” said Pastor Anger Medrano from Victory Outreach Church. The groups were raising awareness of teen drug and alcohol use which can have tragic consequences. Veronica Hernandez with Fallbrook Youth Advocacy Coalition said her daughter lost a friend this summer after she was hit by a DUI driver. “She was only 15 years old. So it’s sad,” said Hernandez. 821

ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) -- The San Dieguito Union High School District is investigating following several acts of vandalism at San Dieguito Academy over the last few weeks. According to the district, the vandalism included “foul and homophobic language, and disturbing anti-Semitic imagery.” The images were drawn and taped to bathroom walls, the district says. “These images have also been shared by some through text and social media,” the district said in a letter.
