Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson on Sunday conceded the Florida Senate race to Republican Gov. Rick Scott, ending his re-election bid after the completion of a statewide recount.Scott announced the concession in a statement, saying, "I just spoke with Senator Bill Nelson, who graciously conceded, and I thanked him for his years of public service."Nelson will make a statement at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, his campaign announced.The concession brings to conclusion a key Senate race that continued to be fought well after Election Day.The Senate race -- along with the governor's and state's race for agriculture commissioner -- went to a machine recount a week ago, but the recount did not do nearly enough for Nelson and further formalized Scott's more than 12,000-vote lead. The contest still fell within the .25% standard for a manual recount of overvotes and undervotes, however.Nelson conceded after the noon deadline for the manual recount, when all of Florida's 67 counties were required to submit their final vote totals to the secretary of state, meaning every vote deemed admissible by county canvassing boards and the courts had been officially counted.The results of the recount showed Scott with a vote lead of 10,033 over incumbent Nelson. Before the completion of the manual recount, Scott had a lead of 12,603 votes.Nelson's concession comes a day after Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum ended his campaign for governor by acknowledging that Republican Ron DeSantis had defeated him. The concession was a blow to Nelson, given the two top Democrats had figuratively stood together in calling for every legal vote cast in Florida to be counted. Gillum's bowing out was an acknowledgment that many Democrats in the state believe the fight is over.Nelson's loss ends his nearly two-decade tenure in the Senate, where he most recently served as the ranking member on the Senate Commerce Committee and previously served as the chair of the Senate Aging Committee.Nelson has been a fixture in Florida politics for more than four decades, serving as a member of the Florida House of Representatives for six years in the 1970s before vaulting to the US House of Representatives in 1979, where he served for 12 years. 2222

(KGTV) - Reports of a positive COVID-19 test at an East County Catholic church are raising concerns about possible exposure.The church is Our Lady of Light Catholic Church in Descanso. On a Facebook post, a board member of the Descanso Town Hall reported a positive case was just revealed to the church pastor by a parishioner. In a statement, a spokesperson for the Catholic Diocese of San Diego says the parishioner is a volunteer who helps prepare the altar for services. She wore a mask and maintained social distance.According to the post, "the person who tested positive was actively involved in all mass and church activities while having symptoms for a week so exposure is possible."The woman remains ill and is now in quarantine at home.The post goes on to explain that exposure was possible for anyone who went to mass in the past two weeks, which includes some 16 different services.It's unclear how many people that totals, but one parishioner tells ABC 10News pre-pandemic attendance for bigger masses numbered in the dozens.The apparent positive test comes amid coronavirus shutdown orders banning indoor church services in the county.The Diocese says the pastor, Father Enrique Fuentes, received a coronavirus test. Any outdoor masses won't take place until the result is known.According to the Diocese, the county has not yet contacted the church about the positive case, but the pastor decided to go ahead and close the church for deep cleaning and inform other volunteers she was in contact with. 1539

DANE COUNTY, Wisc. — A Whitefish Bay boy who underwent heart surgery, and a piglet that jumped out of a moving truck. These two completely different events would serendipitously come together to inspire our community, which is why it is Positively Milwaukee.It has been a long journey for six-year-old Tristan Zick and “Maxwell the Pig.” They met for the first time at Heartland Farm Sanctuary, just outside Madison.To say Tristan is a fan of pigs would be an understatement.“Pigs are my favorite animal," Tristan squealed. "I love piggies!”Maxwell made it to the sanctuary after leaping out of a truck to his freedom. He is now all healed from his wounds.This is something Tristan can relate to. He had heart surgery nine months ago, and so did his stuffed pig.His mom Stacy adds, “What was wonderful was that he was able to take care of the little pig, and I think that alleviated his pain because he was looking after his little stuffed pig. It was so cute!”When Tristan’s birthday rolled around this year, they came across Maxwell’s story. In lieu of gifts, the family raised money to help the piggy recover. The family even hosted a drive-thru bake sale, where the family baked pig-shaped cookies.Stacy shares what blew her away most of all, “[The sanctuary worker] asked what Tristan’s birthday was, and I told him. Despite multiple reports suggesting that the hit sitcom "Friends" would be dropped from Netflix's lineup on Jan. 1, Netflix announced on Monday that the sitcom will remain a part of Netflix's lineup through 2019. Talk about a pivot!The speculation was fueled by a notice on "Friends'" Netflix page that said the sitcom would be on through Jan. 1. DENVER -- The administration of a Denver charter school has been suspended after disturbing video of a playground fight went public. Now, Denver police are investigating the teacher who appears to encourage the girls to throw punches.The April 20 video shows a group of girls at Wyatt Academy in an argument that escalated quickly. The restorative justice officer in the video appears to be smiling and laughing and can be heard at one point in the video saying, "Is anyone, like, going to hit anyone or is this just going to be a…"To which, a child yelled, "people are going to start hitting," before the violence escalated.Community activists said the real story isn't the fight, but the fact that three little girls received Denver Police citations for public fighting, while the school took no action against the teacher for a month — until the video went public."This whole time this is escalating, he never calls for anybody," said H Soul Ashemu, with Our Voice Our Schools, which released the video to try to initiate action from the school or the Denver Public School District.Denver Public School released a statement Friday afternoon saying it is investigating and that they are "deeply troubled by the video." 1248
