SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Looking for a summer job? The City of San Diego is hoping to fill 46 positions at city pools. According to the city, all 46 lifeguard and pool management positions are available at 13 different facilities. Anyone interested has to attend an initial tryout to assess basic swimming skills and qualify to enroll in the city’s lifeguard training program. RELATED: State offers money to help boost college savings accounts Tryouts are being held Tuesday, March 19 and Thursday, March 21, 2019, at the Tierrasanta Pool from 5 – 7 p.m. and Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Vista Terrace Pool in San Ysidro from 9 – 10 a.m.Those who pass will need to attend a week-long lifeguard training program. The course teaches safety, first aid and lifesaving procedures. The program costs 1 and scholarships are available, the city says. Participants who graduate the program will receive American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and Title 22 First Air certifications and will qualify to work as a lifeguard at city pools. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Lifeguards Thursday rescued a 17-year-old girl who fell while hiking at Blacks Beach near Torrey Pines.Lifeguards say the teen was hiking with two other teenagers near Box Canyon about 1:30 p.m. when she fell at least 12 feet into a creek bed.A San Diego Fire-Rescue helicopter flew her to safety. Lifeguards helped the girl's companions walk down to the beach.The girl injured her leg and possibly her head. She was taken to Scripps Hospital in La Jolla.Lifeguards said three other people were rescued about the same time, including one person who started climbing down the cliff and became too scared to go up or down.Watch video from the scene in the player below:  711

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Less than a week before the election, there are reports of political yard signs being stolen and vandalized, and in some cases, appearing in yards.Sunday night, just before midnight in a cul-de-sac in El Cajon, surveillance video shows a car driving slowly before it stops to let someone out."A shadowy figure, looks young, maybe 10 years old, gets out of the vehicle, runs in, and grabs a political sign," said Brandon Spaulding.Spaulding says the sign being taken belonged to his neighbor and it read "Trump/Pence, Make America Great Again." That same night, Spaulding's sign, which had been vandalized days before, also disappeared.The apparent thieves in the Sunday's thefts: a child and an adult."Very disappointed and frustrated ... being a terrible role model. As parents, you’re supposed to teach children the different between right and wrong. I was always taught to love my country, and part of that is freedom of speech. Respect people's rights to say what they want to say," said Spaulding.Spaulding isn't alone. Local Republican Party officials say they've received more than a 100 reports of stolen Trump signs, a greater number when compared to previous presidential elections.In Coronado, police responded Wednesday to seven homes, where yard signs reading "Racism Lives Here" appeared in front of the homes of Trump supporters who were displaying signs or flags.It isn't just Trump backers being targeted. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Like pretty much everything else in 2020 Thanksgiving travel looks very different. San Diego International Airport was pretty empty Wednesday afternoon with no crowds or long lines and everyone was wearing masks.While it appeared to be smooth sailing for passengers, airline workers are faced with more of a challenge.“For United Airlines no one has been rehired for the holiday,” said Dante Harris. He’s a flight attendant of 21 years and President of the Association of Flight Attendants Southern California chapter. Harris was one of many hit by massive airline layoffs in October when stimulus money ran dry.“Industry-wide, more than 100,000 employees in the airline industry have been furloughed,” said Harris. “It has been absolutely a disaster.”While he’s not currently flying, some of his colleagues still are. Many of them faced with this problem:“Flight attendants are trying to enforce the mask policy, there are people who get belligerent, people who get non-compliant,” said Harris.Cases across the county are on the rise, yet Harris says some airlines are pushing towards getting back to normal.“Selling alcohol and serving food. We are fighting against that. that is not something we want to go back to right away.”The Auto Club estimates nearly 4 million Southern Californians will travel for Thanksgiving. Three-and-a-half million will travel by car and about 270,000 by plane.If you are heading out for the holiday, keep the following advice in mind.“We’re 35,000 feet in the air and all we have is each other,” said Harris. “We have to have that sense of community to make sure we’re all taken care of.
