BEIJING, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo met with a U.S. congress delegation led by Howard L. The casualty list did not include a crew of three on board a helicopter that crashed during a disaster-relief mission in southern Pingdong.     Powerful wind paralyzed the power supply for 1.58 million households as of 6:30 p.m. Monday, 1.51 million of which have restored power. Typhoon Morakot also damaged telecom facilities in central-south Taiwan, according to local disaster-relief authorities. XI'AN, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang has said efforts should be made to promote steady and fast industrial growth while improving the quality of economic development.     Zhang made the remarks during a recent inspection tour in northwestern Shaanxi Province, underscoring the importance of adjusting industrial structure, promoting innovation and enhancing enterprise management.     He pointed out that the country's economy has shown a momentum of recovery from the global economic downturn, with more positive signs emerging, but the reviving foundation was not solid enough.     The government should stick to the proactive fiscal policy and moderately easy monetary policy, and give priority to ensuring economic growth, he said.     More efforts should be exerted to expand domestic demand, carryout the massive economic stimulus plan, and promote stable and fast industrial development.     Zhang also urged cutivating new industries, eliminating backward production capacities, and supporting backbone enterprises as well as small and medium-sized firms.

BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- China and Russia signed 12 agreements, including agreements on natural gas and oil, as the premiers of the two countries held their 14th regular meeting in Beijing on Tuesday.     The signing ceremony was overseen by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin after their talks in the Great Hall of the People in downtown Beijing.     Prior to their talks, Wen hosted a red-carpet welcome ceremony for Putin, who is on his first official visit to China since taking office in May 2008.
