The Department of Housing and Urban Development is charging Facebook with violating the Fair Housing Act.HUD on Thursday said the social media giant is violating the federal act by "encouraging, enabling, and causing" housing discrimination through its advertising platform."Facebook is discriminating against people based upon who they are and where they live," HUD Secretary Ben Carson said in a statement. "Using a computer to limit a person's housing choices can be just as discriminatory as slamming a door in someone's face."Last August, HUD 560

The Miami Dolphins waived second-year running back Mark Walton after he was arrested Tuesday morning, with police accusing him of repeatedly punching the mother of his unborn child in the face.An officer responded to a residence in the Miami suburb of Davie around 4:15 a.m. and learned that Walton had been in an argument with a woman, according to a police report. The woman was five weeks pregnant, the report said, and had told Walton on Sunday that the child was his."During the course of the argument, Walton pushed (the woman) against a wall and punched her several times in the face and head. I observed (the woman) to have swelling on her left eye," the responding Davie officer wrote in his report. The victim's name was redacted in the report.Walton is charged with aggravated assault on a pregnant woman, the report says. Walton remained in the Broward County Jail, pending a Wednesday hearing that would determine his bond status.Walton's attorney, Michael Gottlieb, said he spoke with his client Tuesday. He told CNN, "I don't believe Mr. Walton is guilty of the charges as alleged."In a statement, the Dolphins said they waived Walton."We were made aware of a police matter earlier this morning regarding Mark Walton," Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said. "We hold our players to a high standard and take these matters very seriously. We will have no further comment at this time."The Cincinnati Bengals selected Walton, who played at the University of Miami, in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. The Bengals waived Walton after he was arrested three times during the 2019 off-season.The 22-year-old was arrested in January on a misdemeanor drug charge, in February 1704

The coronavirus pandemic has sent the U.S. financial markets on a downward spiral. Last week, in just one day, the Dow Jones Industrial saw a 13 percent drop; it’s single biggest drop ever. “A lot of people are scared,” said Kelly Lannan with Fidelity Investments. “They don’t quite know what they are seeing, especially the average investor who is not following day to day.”Lannan explained most people looking at their 401k accounts are worried but advises people to put their market fears and emotions aside. “Market volatility can really be nerve-racking,” Lannan explained. “We get it from Fidelity investments perspective, and more importantly, we are here to help.”Fidelity is advising the best move right now may be no move at all. Referencing social media posts with the phase “don’t touch your face, don’t touch your 401k,” she explains most investors shouldn’t panic and divest their stocks during the economic downturn during the COVID-19 pandemic.“The most important thing to say, and I know this is really hard to hear, is not to panic,” Lannan explained. “This is a part of life, and the important thing to note, as we saw in 2008, is these downturns are usually followed by a recovery.”Not divesting doesn’t mean ignoring your investments and portfolio. In fact, Lannan believes those concerned about their portfolios and 401k’s should use this time to get more familiar with their investment plan and goals. She recommends a few steps in that review process: · Step One: Understand where you have your money by taking a look at your asset allocation and assess if it aligns with your age and your time horizon. If it does not, start making a plan to restructure your investments when the market starts to recover. · Step Two: Assess whether you have a diversified investment strategy. Diversification helps to soften the impact during market downturns. For those who have an employer sponsored retirement plan, you can reach out to your plan sponsor and ask question or get guidance on this. · Step Three: Take a look at your emergency fund. Fidelity recommends having three to six months of your essential expenses in savings. If you don’t have that and are concerned with possible unemployment due to the economic downturn, start to assess which investments you could move money from. Making a move, in terms of selling off your stocks, may not be the best decision now. However, better understanding your investment portfolio may help you make a better investment decision when the markets recover or even calm your concerns as they struggle during this downturn. “We know from behavioral finance that people make really, really bad decisions when they panic,” said Robert Stammers with the Charter Financial Analyst Institute. The CFA also recommends most invested in the stock market should hold off on divesting, especially if they have a long-term investment strategy. “If they do sell they’re going to be selling in a bad market,” Stammer explained. “They’re basically going to be doing what people tell you not to do, which is sell low and buy high, when the market comes back.”Historically, the market always rebounds. In 2008, it took five years, and in 2015 the market bounced back in about 13 months. Stammer pointed out, even with major downswings, overtime, those who stay invested still see an annual eight to nine percent return on average. “People did not think we’re going to get through the 2008 crisis,” Stammer said. “More than 60 percent said, ‘that’s it, this is never coming back, it is never going to be like this again.’ Then, after it did come back, the return on the market was like 17 percent.”The “stay the course” advice applies to mostly those with time to wait out the market. However, if you are closer to retirement, or in it, both Stammer and Lannan suggest you may want to get individual advice from a financial professional. When seeking help from a financial professional, it is wise to ask if that professional is a fiduciary, which is a financial advisor legally required to put your interest over theirs. Unfortunately, during economic downturns emotional investors are often easy targets for scammers or individuals selling financial instruments acting as financial advisors. The CFA has a 4263

The creator of the Labradoodle cross-breed has said he inadvertently unleashed a "Frankenstein('s) monster."Wally Conron, 90, who worked for Guide Dogs Victoria in Australia when he bred the first Labrador-Poodle cross in 1989, spoke of his regrets at having begun a trend for designer breeds on an ABC podcast."I opened a Pandora's box and released a Frankenstein('s) monster," he said. His "big regret" is that his invention paved the way for "unethical, ruthless people" to breed the dogs without thinking of the health of their offspring.According to Conron, the majority of Labradoodles are "either crazy or have a hereditary problem," with healthy examples of the breed "few and far between."He believes that people have now gone too far with cross-breeding, which can increase a dog's risk of congenital disease, particularly down the generations. On the podcast, he laid particular scorn on the new Rottweiler-Poodle hybrid, known as a Rottle or a Rottie-Poo.Conron's original purpose in crossing a Labrador with a standard Poodle (which has a non-shedding coat) had been to provide a guide dog for a blind woman in Hawaii whose husband was allergic to dogs. The resulting litter of three was small, but one of the puppies did not trigger the husband's allergies and was sent to Hawaii to be her guide dog.As no one wanted the two remaining puppies, Conron asked the PR department at his work to spread the message of this new breed. Labradoodles quickly became popular in Australia and further afield. Now, designer breeds have become widespread -- but so has criticism of the consequences. Labradoodles, for example, can develop health problems common to Labrador Retrievers and Poodles such as hip dysplasia and eye disease.Colin Tennant, a British expert on dog behaviour with 45 years of experience in the industry, told CNN: "In essence, you are blindly breeding and altering genetics of the line without foreknowledge."Although Tennant said he doesn't have a problem with cross-breeding in general, he noted that breeders should pay more attention to dog's health. One example, he said, was the Bichon Frise, whose eyes water. "It must be in agony all the time," he explained. "They breed the face flat so they look humanoid because we find that attractive, with no consideration for the permutations we are producing with regards the dog's welfare or health." 2383

The African Safari Wildlife Park in Port Clinton, Ohio, is mourning the loss of 10 animals it housed in a barn that caught fire Thanksgiving evening.Firefighters from Danbury Township, Catawba Island and Port Clinton all responded to the blaze, according to authorities. In a message posted on the park's Facebook page, park officials said they are still assessing how many animals perished in the fire."We are grateful that our staff is safe and no one was injured, but the loss of the wildlife that we care for every day is tragic for our team members who love these animals," park officials said on Facebook. According to authorities, 10 animals died in the fire. They are: three bongos, three giraffes, three red river hawks and one springbok. A zebra managed to escape the fire. 794
