Fraidoon Ahmad gave alcohol to Yolanda Lozano and Mabel Bahena, both 19, on Feb. 17, 2017. Lozano later drove while drunk and collided with a truck on Interstate 15, killing Bahena. Lozano pleaded guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and was sentenced to one year in custody, with Bahena's family asking a judge for leniency as the two women had been best friends since grade school. Ahmad pleaded guilty in May to misdemeanor charges of furnishing alcohol to a person under 21 and furnishing alcohol to a minor causing great bodily injury and death. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A La Jolla restaurant owner raped eight women who he either drugged or knew were too intoxicated to consent to sex, a prosecutor said Tuesday, while a defense attorney argued none of the charged sex acts were forced upon the alleged victims, nor was there any evidence that any of the women were drugged.Jurors on Tuesday began deliberating the fate of Daniel Dorado, who is charged with 35 felonies, including rape of an unconscious person and rape of an intoxicated person. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities Wednesday publicly identified a 27-year-old man who was fatally shot last weekend in an apparently unprovoked attack near the handball courts at the Linda Vista Recreation Center.Officers responding to reports of shots fire around 11 a.m. Sunday at the recreation center, 7064 Levant St., found San Diego-resident Israel Castro suffering from at least one gunshot to his upper body, San Diego police Lt. Andra Brown said.Paramedics took Castro to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Brown said.While officers were at the hospital, a 30-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound was brought in by a private vehicle, the lieutenant said. The man told officers he was also at the Linda Vista Recreation Center when he was shot.Witnesses told police that a man wearing a mask and shorts was seen running from the scene and getting into a white four-door vehicle that sped off southbound on Linda Vista Road, Brown said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A Lemon Grove man who aimed a laser pointer at a San Diego police helicopter during a police protest this summer is facing a maximum possible sentence of five years in prison following his conviction by a federal jury, the U.S. Attorney's Office said Thursday.Rudy Alvarez, 25, was found guilty by a jury in San Diego federal court late Wednesday for shining a laser at the SDPD chopper around 8:30 p.m. June 4 in the area of 500 University Ave.The U.S. Attorney's Office said Alvarez shined the laser at the chopper multiple times over the course of an hour as he marched with protesters through downtown San Diego.The count of aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft carries a maximum possible sentence of five years in prison and a 0,000 fine.
