(KGTV) — Carlsbad Police arrested a man they believe tried to break into multiple homes early Saturday.Police say 26-year-old Esparza Alan Arias, of Los Angeles, was arrested Saturday and charged with residential burglary and other charges. Police are asking residents to check their cameras if they have any for images of Arias.Police say the first incident happened in the 6500 block of Paseo Frontera at about 12:30 a.m., though the victim didn't report it until about 1:30 a.m. Police say while inside, Arias reportedly touched the male resident while he was sleeping and woke him up. Arias then fled after being confronted, police said.The second incident happened just after 1:10 a.m. in the 2900 block of Unicornio St. Residents awoke to find Arias in their home, and he fled after being confronted, according to police.Just before 1:30 a.m., a third incident occurred in the 3000 block of Xana Way. Police say a resident of the home found Arias trying to enter and confronted the suspect through a window. Arias fled and the resident walked outside and fired a warning gunshot into the air, police added.Police were investigating the other incidents when they heard the gunshot. Arias was found nearby hiding behind a vehicle, police say.Arias was booked into Vista Detention Facility.Police ask anyone in the area to check their cameras and call 760-931-3819 to report any sightings of Arias. 1426

(KGTV) – Legoland California officials say the Carlsbad theme park will not reopen to the public before Aug. 1.In a statement, officials said: “Considering the constantly changing Coronavirus situation and the recent announcement by the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, LEGOLAND? California will not reopen prior to August 1, 2020. The Board announced there will be no reopenings approved prior to that date.”Officials also said a reopening date for the Legoland Hotel will be announced soon.Despite the park’s closure, the Sea Life aquarium is open for guests under state and county guidelines for aquariums.When Legoland California reopens, officials said it will be at reduced attendance and temperature checks for employees. (CNS) -- Three wildfires continued burning across open terrain on the grounds of Camp Pendleton Wednesday, sending plumes of smoke over northern San Diego County but posing no threats to military or civilian structures.The flames began spreading through training areas toward the center of the Marine Corps base on Monday.As of Wednesday afternoon, base officials said one of the fires, dubbed the Wood Fire, has burned 7,000 acres and is 20 percent contained.A second fire, called the India Fire, has burned 1,100 acres and is 20 percent contained.A third fire named the Range Fire is burning in the Range 706 Yankee impact area and has charred 500 acres, according to base officials.Base officials said the fires are expected to produce smoke through the remainder of the day, and the fires are not posing a threat on or off the base.Military firefighters have been aided by Cal Fire ground and airborne crews in their effort to corral the blazes.Officials have disclosed no cause for the fires. CARMEL, Indiana — The family of a Carmel High School student who took his own life after getting in trouble at school has filed a lawsuit against the school district.Patrick McCalley got in trouble for a Snapchat message, showing a noose around the neck of an African-American schoolmate. McCalley died by suicide after the school had him sign an affidavit over the incident without his parents being notified.His parents are now suing the Carmel-Clay School District for negligence and for violations of due process of the Fourth Amendment's ban on unreasonable searches. 610

(KGTV) — The grandmother of the 17-year-old who's accused of stabbing Lisa Thorborg to death on a Carlsbad hiking trail in November doesn't believe her grandson could have committed the crime.Christie Hernandez said that she talked to her grandson, Haloa Beaudet, just after Tuesday's virtual court hearing where new surveillance images were revealed and the judge allowed the release of the teen's name. Images of his face have been ordered to remain withheld from the public."[He said] 'I'm strong. I'm going to be positive. You and papa [don't need to] worry. Tell everyone in the family that I'm okay and I'll be home soon," Hernandez told ABC 10News.RELATED: Judge releases name of Carlsbad teen murder suspect, new surveillance imagesOn Wednesday, the DA's Office confirmed that it filed a motion to request that the teen be tried as an adult but that it will take almost a year before a hearing is set where a judge will make the determination.The prosecution said this week that a surveillance camera captured Beaudet running barefoot on the street away from the trail a few minutes after Thorborg was believed to have been killed.Other images show him on the trail in the days after the murder. Detectives said that his DNA was found on the victim's shorts and a pair of his sandals were found near her body. His attorneys argue that he is a free spirit who often left his sandals behind and Thorborg may have picked them up, which is how his DNA got on her."He would not have done this. It's like stabbing me in the neck," added Hernandez.Hernandez said that he had been living with her and doing online schooling for the last two months after moving to San Diego from Hawaii. She described him as a kind young man who is incapable of violence. "We go to the store and he's helping little old ladies pick out which watermelons are good and which grapes are the sweetest and holding doors open. So, this just really baffles me," she stated.
