On Friday, families are still grieving and plan to honor the somber milestone.The fast-food restaurant sits on the corner of Del Sol and Picador Boulevards. Witnesses say the man tried to use counterfeit bills to buy food and was refused.He killed Maribel Merino-Iba?ez, 28, and severely injured Mario Rojas, who is a grandfather.Friday, a drawing of Maribel's ghost above wilted flowers showed her loved ones still feel the emptiness.Rojas barely escaped that night and is still going back to the hospital."I still have more surgeries coming in, I think probably next month," Rojas said over the phone.He was shot in the arm and the stomach, which has led to back complications. Last December, when he came home from the hospital, he described how difficult his recovery has been: "He destroyed my life, my dreams everything."Rojas is in a similar state a year later, using a walker to get around and unable to work."My wife has to help me take a shower, and help me with the clothes, to change my clothes and everything," he said sadly.The restaurant paying 20 hours a week of worker's compensation, not nearly enough to pay mounting medical bills and rent."I have a lot of depression right now," Rojas said.His wife launched a GoFundMe page to help them through. Police said four people were injured Wednesday in two separate knife attacks about 30 minutes apart in central Vienna, Austria.Three victims were injured in the first attack outside a restaurant near the Nestroyplatz subway station, a police spokesman told CNN. The victims were a couple and their daughter, CNN affiliate ORF reported.The fourth victim was injured in the second attack at Praterstern, a major city square, the spokesman said.Authorities are investigating whether the incidents are linked, the spokesman said.Police are still searching for the attacker or attackers, the spokesman said.Witnesses said they saw police swarming the area.Michael Eisenriegler, who lives next to where the stabbing happened, told CNN he saw flashing lights and went downstairs."There were maybe ... one or two dozen policemen (at the site of the attack.) The supply of new homes for sale was enough for 3.3 months, tied with the previous month for a record low.Supply is low because buyers are pouncing whenever homes become available. Most existing homes sold in October — 7 in 10 — were on the market less than a month, according to the NAR.With a slender stock of homes selling fast, buyers have little power. “The control is in the seller’s hands because of supply and demand,” says Terri Robinson, a Realtor with Re/Max Select Properties in Ashburn, Virginia.Set realistic expectationsExpect months to elapse between the first step of checking your credit reports to the final step of closing on the home. “The first thing that I hope people understand is it’s not an overnight process,” says Marc J. Jenkins, a real estate agent with Prime Property Partners in Atlanta.Jenkins tells first-timer clients that it typically takes five to eight months to buy a home. Understanding that homebuying timeline “prepares them mentally, emotionally and financially to see this process through.” Would-be buyers are prone to burnout if they expect the process to take a month, he says.Everyone wants a bargain, but buyers need to recalibrate the meaning of that word so it applies to today’s competitive environment. “A bargain, if I were to redefine that, is the home that you want for the price that you’re willing to pay,” Robinson says.Know where you’ll compromiseMore than three-quarters of home buyers in their 20s and 30s made compromises, according to NAR’s 2020 Home Buyers and Sellers Generational Trends Report. The most common compromises had to do with the condition or price of the home.So before you start seriously looking at homes, decide what you need and what you won’t budge on. You may have a maximum price and commute time, a minimum size or other requirements. Those are your deal breakers. Write them down. Resist the temptation to compromise on deal breakers, even when you feel discouraged. For all else, keep an open mind.Make decisions fastIn today’s market, many homes are on the market for less than a month, so it’s important to make an offer quickly once you find one you like. Let your list of deal breakers be your guide. If a home meets your criteria, including an acceptable price, it may be worth making an offer. Again, quickly, because many sellers field multiple offers within a day or two of listing the home and planting a “for sale” sign in the yard.“Even as a first-time home buyer, they may have to make a quick decision whether or not to buy a home,” Robinson says. PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — Drivers continue to share stories of scary moments and narrow escapes as there are more reports of Kia Souls catching fire.New complaints led I-Team Investigator Jackie Callaway to ask why some vehicles weren't included in the automaker's past recalls for engine fire risks.Brek Badgley says his 2015 Kia Soul burst into flames while rolling down I-75 northbound in Hernando County last December. He said the fire gutted the entire vehicle within minutes.“Just tossed my phone out of the window and started throwing stuff out of the car,” Badgley said.In April 2019, Kia recalled nearly 380,000 Kia Souls made between 2012 and 2016 over a defect that they say could cause a fire. We checked Brek’s VIN and found his Soul wasn't included in that recall.The I-Team discovered not every Soul made during those years was taken off the road. Kia says that's because even within the same model year, vehicles can have different equipment.Shelly Parks' 2015 Kia Soul was among those not recalled. Parks says it caught fire as she drove near Columbus, Ohio, last summer."We hear someone yell fire, and by the time we had noticed anything, there was fire coming from underneath the car," Parks said.She told the I-Team the car was still rolling to a stop when both she and her friend jumped out.“I watched the car roll past me on fire."The I-Team also found 2018 Kia Souls catching fire, according to three reports filed with federal regulators. Kia reports these Soul fires are rare and can be caused by any number of factors not related to engine defects.In August, 34-year-old Jordan Carlton died of his injuries a year after his rented 2019 Kia Soul went up in flames as he drove down a Hawaiian highway.
