NEW DELHI, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- China-India relationship stands at a new starting point, the two should view and approach relations from a strategic and long-term perspective and keep moving forward their partnership to benefit the two countries and peoples, visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said here Tuesday.     He made the remarks in his speech titled "For Peace and Friendship, Win-Win Cooperation and Common Development" at a meeting held by the Indian Council of World Affairs and the Institute of Chinese Studies. He attended the inauguration ceremony of China's consulate-general in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, met and reached agreement with the West Bengal's Governor and Chief Minister on ways to deepen friendly and multi-faceted cooperation between China and West Bengal.     He called upon Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and held talks with Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee in Delhi Monday. BEIJING, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- The spacewalk performed by Chinese taikonauts Zhai Zhigang Saturday afternoon marks a major breakthrough in China's space program, Chinese President Hu Jintao said.     Hu talked with the trio taikonauts at the Beijing Aerospace Control Center for the Shenzhou-7 mission at 6:35 p.m. Saturday, when he inquired the physical conditions of the three taikonauts.     "Your country and your fellow citizens thank you for your devotion to the space program," he said.     He congratulated the trio over the success of the spacewalk, and encouraged them to continue the efforts for a "complete success.     Zhai Zhigang was assisted during the spacewalk by Liu Boming in the orbit module. China is the third country in the world to accomplish the feat after the United States and Russia. "In the vast space, I felt proud of our motherland."      Hu congratulated the astronauts on the successful feat and encouraged them to carry on efforts to fulfill the mission.     "The thing I most want to know is how are you feeling now and how is your work going," Hu asked the trio.     "We feel well," said Zhai. "We conducted the space scientific tests as planned and the EVA went smoothly."     Hu hailed the spacewalk as a sign of the country's progress in space scientific technology.     "You have made outstanding contribution to our country's space project," said Hu. "The country and the Chinese people are grateful to you."     At 4:43 p.m. (0843 GMT) on Saturday, Zhai slipped out of the orbital module of Shenzhou-7 in a head-out-first position, wearing a 4-million-U.S.dollar homemade Feitian space suit.     China's first-ever spacewalk marked a remarkable progress in the country's ambitious space program, which will eventually lead to the establishment of a permanent space station. BEIJING, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has vowed to provide foreign experts serving China with better working and living conditions.     Wen made the remark in meeting with 50 chosen foreign specialists and their families at the Great Hall of People here on Monday, in which he issued the experts Friendship Award of the year on behalf of the Chinese government. LHASA, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake followed by some 1,000 aftershocks has affected more than 60,000 people in the Tibet Autonomous Region this week, the local government said in a news conference Saturday.     Since Monday's 6.6-magnitude quake struck Damxung County in Lhasa, more than 1,000 aftershocks have been monitored, including one that measured 5.4 on the Richter scale, said Gong Puguang, vice president of the regional government.     61,231 people in the region's capital have been affected and 989 houses collapsed, said Gong.     More than 4,800 people have been relocated out of the quake zone.     The quake-hit areas include Lhasa, Xigaze and Shannan regions, where 28 km of road and 11 bridges were damaged.     So far, ten people have been confirmed dead. 54 others sustained injuries, one third of those injuries are serious.     The central government allocated 10 million yuan (1.46 million U.S. dollars), 11,000 tents, quilts, and other quake relief materials to the affected area.     The items were being distributed as traffic and telecommunication resumed in the area.     The local government is evaluating economic losses from the disaster.     Seismologists predict more aftershocks will hit the county but the force is unlikely to exceed 5.5 on the Richter scale. A doctor from the General Hospital of Tibet's Area Command of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) takes a medical examination for a resident suffered from earthquake in Yangyi Village of Gedar Township in Damxung County, an outer county of Lhasa, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, Oct. 10, 2008.
