SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Pac-Man is the newest inductee into the Comic-Con Museum's Character Hall of Fame, the San Diego-based museum announced Thursday.Pac-Man "is being honored as the original digital game mascot for his enduring impact he has had on the video game industry and the role of storytelling in games," according to the museum, which is scheduled to partially open in Balboa Park in mid-2021.The iconic, hungry yellow circle will be the second character in the museum's hall of fame. Batman was inducted in the hall of fame's inaugural year in 2019.This year marks the 40th anniversary of Pac-Man, which is the highest- grossing video game ever made, according to the museum. As of 2016, the game had generated more than billion in revenue."We thought Pac-Man would be the perfect addition to the Museum Character Hall of Fame because he inspires a sense of nostalgia in many of us and even though he is turning 40, he is still highly relevant in pop culture today," said Eddie Ibrahim, senior director of programming for the Comic-Con Museum. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego County Board of Supervisors will meet in closed session Monday to consider taking legal action against the state to prevent potentially sliding back into the most restrictive tier on Tuesday.The Board met Thursday night to discuss their options after Gov. Gavin Newsom rejected a county effort Wednesday to discount the more than 700 positive tests recorded by San Diego State University since the semester began.The supervisors did not make a decision on taking legal action against the state in their meeting Thursday, but Supervisor Greg Cox said the board will meet in closed-session Monday after receiving more information, "to consider any further actions."County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher was vague about the closed meeting Thursday, but urged caution."In general, I believe we should be fighting COVID-19 and not the state of California," he said. "We do not yet know what our case rate will be next Tuesday and will have to evaluate that number in order to understand any possible impact."The county will find out Tuesday if it will slip back to the purple tier of the state's coronavirus reopening roadmap. If so, it would likely shutter indoor operations for restaurants, movie theaters, houses of worship and gyms, limit retail businesses to just 25% capacity and have major impacts on indoor business for most other industries until the county can improve its numbers.Should the county be placed in that tier, it would have to wait a minimum of three weeks before moving back to less restrictive tiers.If state data announced Tuesday shows the county has a case rate higher than 7, it could be moved into the purple tier -- the most restrictive. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego City officials Saturday will rededicate a Skyline-area police substation in honor of a patrolman gunned down nearly four decades ago during a traffic stop two blocks from where the precinct house now stands.The SDPD Southeastern Division headquarters will be renamed the Archie Buggs Memorial Building during a late-morning ceremony on the 39th anniversary of the slaying. Two of the late lawman's relatives -- his sister, Gwen Buggs, and cousin, Pam Jones -- are scheduled to be present for the event.Buggs, 30, came under fire in the early morning hours of Nov 4, 1978, after stopping a 1968 Chevrolet driven by 17-year-old gang member Jesus Cecena in the 7100 block of Skyline Drive.The teen fired five times at Buggs, then paused, walked toward the downed officer and shot him in the head at point-blank range. Buggs died on the street, his hand on his service revolver.Cecena was convicted of murder and sentenced to serve life in prison without the possibility of parole in August 1979. Because of his age at the time of the killing, his sentence was reduced to a seven-years-to-life term in 1982.Three years ago, a change in the law made Cecena eligible for youth offender parole. His release was approved by the state Parole Board in April 2014, but Gov. No-cost testing will be offered to identified students on December 12, 2018 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Community Learning Center campus.The potential exposure at San Diego City College, 1313 Park Blvd, San Diego, was from September 14, 2018 to October 10, 2018.
