The helicopter is required from the FAA to have certain properties, like yourself, evacuate the home.”ORIGINAL STORY: Family urging San Diegans to be aware of a possible new SDG&E scamAfter calling SDG&E to confirm, they were told there was no work going on in their area. The family believed they had been scammed. But it turns out, the phone call was true — for a different neighborhood.According to SDG&E, FAA does require residents to leave their homes when work is being done in their area requiring a helicopter and special construction.However, when the Chavez family called SDG&E, they didn't use the number the original caller provided. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego man was walking downtown to his apartment with a pizza Thanksgiving Day, about to spend the evening alone, when he met a gentleman who asked for a slice.The two sat down, shared the pizza and a conversation. The man who bought the pizza, Broc Costa, said the conversation with the homeless man was enlightening. He learned the man was a veteran trying to get mental health services in California, splitting his time between San Diego and Arizona where his wife and kids live.He said it was too expensive to live or buy a hotel room here so he was on the street. "To be blunt, we're all about one or two paychecks away from being in the same situation," Costa said.So next year he bought 5 pizzas to hand out, the next 20 and the year after that, 20 more.This tradition started 7 years ago.Now Costa's raising money and sending volunteers across the county to deliver pizzas to homeless where they reside."It would be really cool for him to see what he started, because he's just as important in this as I was," Costa said he wishes him the best.This year they're at Petco Park's tailgate parking lot near the pedestrian bridge, in Escondido and Pacific Beach delivering more than 50 pizzas and serving 500 to 1,000, according to Costa. 1304

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A suspected DUI driver overturned his car while speeding in the East Village, sending a passenger flying from the vehicle and facing life-threatening injuries.A 23-year-old man was driving a 2004 Toyota Prius "at a high rate of speed" eastbound on Market St. just before midnight Friday, according to San Diego Police. As he turned left to continue northbound on 7th Ave., he struck the curb and his Toyota overturned.A 24-year-old man sitting in the passenger's seat was ejected from the vehicle and suffered life-threatening injuries, including a crushed pelvis and internal bleeding. They were in critical condition Saturday morning, according to police.The driver suffered a laceration to his forehead, police said.Police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. 795

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An hours-long standoff between San Diego Police and a burglary suspect ended late Thursday night in the Marina area.The standoff, which started at about 4:30 p.m., occurred in the area of West Harbor Dr., between Kettner Blvd. and Pacific Highway. Police called Emergency Negotiation Team and SWAT officers, and a Psychiatric Emergency Response Team to the scene. Shortly after 11 p.m., SDPD said the San Diego Police suspect had been taken into custody.No further information was immediately available. 530
