SANTA ANA (CNS) - A child who tested positive for West Nile Virus is the first person to be infected this year in Orange County, officials reported today.The child, whose age and identity are protected, was diagnosed sometime last week and was hospitalized but is expected to recover, according to the Orange County Health Care Agency. This was the first time this year a person in the county has been infected.The state has reported 10 people infected statewide so far in 2020. County officials said a total of seven people contracted West Nile in the area last year.One in five individuals infected with West Nile, for which there is no cure, will exhibit symptoms that include fever, headache, body aches, nausea or skin rash. The symptoms can last for several days to months.One in 150 people infected with the virus will require hospitalization. Severe symptoms include high fever, muscle weakness, neck stiffness, coma, paralysis and possibly death. Those at greatest risk include seniors and individuals with compromised immune systems.People older than 50 and who have underlying medical conditions are at a heightened risk.``The best way to avoid West Nile Virus infection is to take precautionary measures to avoid mosquito bites,'' said Dr. Clayton Chau, the director of the Orange County Health Care Agency and interim chief health officer for the county.To curb the spread of West Nile Virus, experts say it's critical to remove typical breeding grounds for mosquitoes that carry the disease. People should clean out standing water sources around the house, including pet bowls and flower pots. (KGTV) - Traffic at the San Ysidro Port of Entry was left at a standstill for more than an hour following a reported security incident Saturday.Multiple lanes through the port were closed following the find, 10News viewer video showed. (KGTV) — San Diego County will set up a coronavirus testing site at one of the world's busiest border crossings.County Supervisor Greg Cox said Wednesday the testing site will be at San Ysidro Port of Entry's PedWest crossing and serve about 200 tests daily. The testing site will be used for essential workers coming into the U.S. from Mexico and returning U.S. citizens. (KGTV) -- Four juveniles were taken into custody early Wednesday morning after police said they sprayed a 7-Eleven clerk with a fire extinguisher and then proceeded to steal several items from the store.San Diego police said the incident happened at around 3:30 a.m. at a store on Cottonwood Road, near San Ysidro Boulevard, in San Ysidro.According to police, four juveniles entered the store and sprayed the clerk with a fire extinguisher before grabbing items such as alcohol and food.Officers responding to the incident spotted the group and pursued them on foot. The juveniles were eventually caught and taken into custody.Officers recovered the fire extinguisher and some of the items that were taken down the street from the store. 764

SEDGWICK, Colo. – A man suspected of killing three members of a Kentucky family who were found dead Monday was arrested Monday afternoon near a small town in northeast Colorado.Edward Siddens, was arrested around 4:20 p.m. in Sedgwick, Colorado, which is just south and west of borders with Nebraska.He was wanted by Kentucky State Police out of Allen County, Kentucky. In connection to the deaths of Jimmy Siddens, his wife, Helen Siddens, and their son, Jimmy Siddens II. It's unclear how Edward Siddens might be related to the deceased.According to Kentucky authorities and local media reports, a county water employee was checking the family’s meter Monday and found two bodies on the ground. Authorities found another body nearby.The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office says it was notified shortly after 4 p.m. Monday that Siddens as in the county.Siddens was believed to have been driving a stolen vehicle when he was found by deputies in the town of Sedgwick. The sheriff’s office says deputies were involved in a “short low speed pursuit” with Siddens before he was arrested without incident.The sheriff’s office confirmed that Siddens was the man arrested Monday, and said it was working with Kentucky state police.
