The four-night convention begins with a roll call on Monday evening from delegates who take turns stating their pick for the nominee. California Republican National Committeewoman and Delegate to Republican National Convention Harmeet Dhillon said they are expecting a unanimous vote for President Trump and VP Mike Pence.Then, top republicans and citizens will speak through the next few nights. President Trump is expected to speak Thursday evening, but the schedule also shows he will be in the program to some capacity every evening.This would typically be a time when hundreds from California attend, but with coronavirus restrictions, that’s not possible this year. Dhillon said California would typically have 170 delegates, an equal number of alternates and guests, but that number has dwindled to just 6 for 2020. She said everyone in Charlotte has taken multiple coronavirus tests and said she feels safe with the health guidelines being practiced.Dhillon also said that she encouraged people who would not be flying to the RNC to donate the money saved from staying home. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police Wednesday identified the Border Patrol agents and suspect they say knocked an agent off his ATV before being shot.Agents Micah Owens and Brandon Brandt reportedly shot the suspect, Francisco Javier Gutierrez-Alvarado, during the incident.Alvarado was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and no agents were seriously injured, police say.RELATED: Man shot by Border Patrol after knocking agent off ATV with rock, authorities sayDuring an initial investigation, authorities learned that a Border Patrol agent was on patrol on an ATV in the area of Spooner’s Mesa when he was hit with a rock and knocked off the vehicle by Alvarado.The suspect rode away on the ATV and was chased by several other agents before losing control and crashing into a fence.During the chase, both agents reportedly shot at Alvarado, striking him at least once. Alvarado is being charged with assaulting a federal officer. The San Diego Police Department is handling the investigation. 1019

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — New data released by the San Diego County Office of Education show three-fourths of all K-12 students in the County are now studying online and experts believe that number will increase by the start of the new year.Poway parent, Caroline Epps, told her three children recently that they would be going back to virtual learning."I could tell they were disappointed," Epps said. "It's been nice having them there even though it's been such a short time. It's going to be a little difficult having them at home the whole day again."Poway Unified is one of the few school districts that are still offering modified in-person instruction, only to elementary students. But earlier this week, the district announced they would be recommending all students to revert to distance learning after winter break."My oldest will have the most difficult time with that because her assignments are more complex," Epps said.The decision comes after another surge in COVID-19 cases. Bob Mueller with the County Office of Education says 75% of K-12 students are now learning remotely, up from 68% last month."We are seeing the impact of gatherings for Thanksgiving," Mueller said. "It's likely that we will see the surge deepen for a time as we feel the impact of gatherings for the December holidays."School staff getting sick or having to quarantine are resulting in a serious staffing shortage."We are seeing unprecedented demand for substitutes," Mueller said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Parts of Balboa Park reopened Friday after the COVID-19 pandemic forced closures in March.Park officials said the following areas would reopen: Central Mesa (El Prado, Plaza de Panama, Cabrillo Bridge, Pan American Plaza), all parking lots, Prado Restaurant, Tea Pavilion, and Visitors Center.Tim Lu and his daughter Matilda have been looking forward to a bike ride at the park for a long time.They live nearby and drove by regularly ever since the park closed. Week after week, all they saw were empty streets and sidewalks.When they got the news that parts of Balboa Park were going to reopen, Lu wanted to make sure they were there for the first day. And he wasn’t alone, as others showed up equally as happy to see the park reopen.Sarah Beckman, director of the Balboa Park Conservancy, said, “This is part of people’s daily routines. This is a neighborhood park. It’s also a global destination but our friends have been missing this for a long time now.”While at the park or the trails, San Diego County and city health orders are still in effect.
