SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego police officer was involved in a shooting outside a music venue in downtown San Diego just before 7 p.m. Saturday.San Diego Police Lt. Mike Holden said that a white man in his thirties was acting violently on top of a vehicle hood on the corner of W. Ash Street and India Street. The man was only wearing pants and did not have a shirt or shoes on and was standing on the hood of a car yelling at the driver, police said. A police officer tried to take the man into custody and used a Taser, which did not subdue him. Police said the man continued to act violently. The officer then fired one shot, which did not hit anybody."The officer continued to struggle with the suspect," said Lt. Mike Holden of the San Diego Police Department. "At one point during the struggle the officer feared for his life. The officer fired one round from his handgun, but missed the suspect."The suspect, Brent Zadina, 30, was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for observation. Police do not believe Zadina was armed. The officer sustained minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital, Holden said. Police are investigating the incident near the Music Box. The roads were closed nearby for the investigation but have since reopened. This is a developing story. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- After years of setbacks and construction, part of One Paseo is getting ready to open its doors in Carmel Valley. The company behind the project plans to open the multi-concept development in phases, with the retail space scheduled to open first in the beginning of March. The residential area is set to open in the summer of 2019 with offices on the property following in 2020. RELATED: Salt & Straw to open second San Diego shop at One PaseoThe property includes 96,000 square feet of shops and restaurants, 608 residential units and 286,000 square feet of real estate. The City Council approved the much larger original project in 2015, but it was overturned after opponents collected 60,000 signatures on a petition. Council members urged the project's developer, Kilroy Realty, and its opponents to reach a compromise. The downsized One Paseo project was approved by San Diego’s City Council 8-1 in mid 2016. RELATED: City Council approves slimmed down One Paseo"It's great to see the two sides coming together and working out an agreement, and coming to terms of a settlement that had been worked out earlier," Councilwoman Lorie Zapf told 10News in 2016. "When you see a lot of the former foes here now in support and praising the community outreach efforts, it's a huge difference from (prior) meetings that we had here."Check out the list below for shops and restaurants in the retail space so far: International SmokeThe ButcheryWays & MeansDrybarNathan WestCurbarColor CounterSusie CakesMizukiyama SushiSalt & StrawPigmentNorth ItaliaWhiskey + LeatherMarrow FineVan De VortJoe the JuiceParakeet CafeTender GreensUrban Beach HouseShop GoodSoulcycle 1692

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Texas company has been awarded a contract to erect nearly 30 miles of fencing along California's border with Mexico.U.S. Customs and Border Protection awarded 7 million in construction contracts to Texas-based construction company SLSCO. The contracts include up to 14 miles of secondary wall and up to 15 miles of primary pedestrian replacement wall in California within the San Diego, Yuma, and El Centro Sectors. The 15-mile primary pedestrian replacement wall will include the installation of a new, 30-foot steel bollard wall: About 11 miles in Calexico, three miles in Tecate, and one mile in Andrade. According to CBP, these areas represent areas where wall replacement has been a priority. Construction for that 6 million project is slated to begin in July 2019.The secondary wall project is a 1 million contract and will include up to 14 miles of the same 30-foot steel bollard wall adjacent to San Diego's primary fence replacement project that is currently under construction. Construction of that project is projected to begin February 2019.SLSCO has already worked on border construction earlier this year, constructing new steel fencing in Border Field State Park. The two projects are a part of President Trump's "Border Security and Immigration Enforcement Improvements" executive order, which calls for a contiguous wall to be built along the southern U.S. border with Mexico, according to CBP. 1447

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An innovative K-12 curriculum created by the Cajon Valley Union School District (CVUSD) is gaining nationwide attention.World of Work aims to tackles problems seen in the education system head-on. "The programs that we have here at Fuerte are really empowering the students to think differently. They are really empowering them to challenge the adults to rethink education," said Kristen Goodrich, Principal of Fuerte Elementary. Through various activities, students discover which of six personality traits fits them best and the careers that could be a good match. It's called the RIASEC Model:RealisticInvestigativeArtisticSocialEnterprisingConventionalOn Tuesday, education and state leaders toured schools in the district as part of the ExcelinEd 2019 National Summit on Education Reform. "I jumped at the opportunity because it sounds like there's a lot of things going right here," said Wendy Horman, an Idaho State Representative. World of Work students receive hands-on experiences, meet a professional in the career, and practice skills needed in that career.By fourth grade, students are creating resumes, and by fifth, they're applying for jobs and doing interviews. "This is where education is going, 100 percent," said Goodrich.World of Work is now in several California districts, as well as districts in other states, including Illinois and Texas. 1389

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Alpine residents are bracing for a Public Safety Power Shutoff, as SDG&E monitors the weather conditions. The National Weather Service issued a High Wind Warning Thursday, "winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 60 mph. Local gusts to 75 mph possible near the mountain ridge tops." The warning lasts through Friday afternoon.Neighbors in Alpine are always ready if a fire sparks, “we keep a go bag of important documents and stuff and uh three dogs at this point and we’d be able to take them with us, and we had to do that in the past too." Neighbor Steve Allison said. He's lived in Alpine for 20 years."Well we’ve chosen to evacuate four times, the last time we had no choice, we had to go. The fire burned within 40 feet of the house," he said he was thankful firefighters saved his home last year during the West Fire.Since the West Fire swept through, in July of 2018, he's made some changes to his home, "we have defensible space around our house, we have new vents in our attic they’re supposed to keep the embers out of the attic."SDG&E reports areas of Alpine, Descanso and Pine Valley are in the dark Thursday and won't get power back until Saturday evening at 6 p.m, due to the Public Safety Power Shutoff. Neighbors like Allison are determined fire danger won't scare them off. "You do what you have to do, Alpine is a beautiful place to live and I’m not about to move because of that," Allison said. 1442
