Home prices hit a new all-time high this month. New numbers out today from Realtor.com show the national median listing price is at 9,000, a ,000 increase over last year.But there aren't a lot of homes available.The number for sale across the country is down 33 percent compared to a year ago.Pittsburgh and Los Angeles saw the biggest jump in housing, with respectively a 25% and 24.3% jump in median listing price from this time a year ago.The average listing is on the market for 60 days, marking no change from this time a year ago. 550

From 2000 through 2018, 459 children have died from accidental furniture tip overs, which are preventable fatalities that can be stopped by anchoring furniture to a wall.In response, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission is launching a public service announcement campaign called "Even When You're Watching.” The campaign will show the dangers of leaving furniture unanchored. The campaign includes “terrifying” footage of tip overs caught on video.In addition to the number of fatalities, the CPSC estimates that every 43 minutes, a child is injured by furniture tipping over."Even when adults are in the same room with children, dangerous tip-overs can occur," said CPSC acting chairman Robert Adler. "Many parents and caregivers do not know about this hidden hazard, or believe that they can prevent a tip-over by watching their children, but these incidents still happen. We urge adults to Anchor It! and to tell their friends and family to do so, too, because these tragic tip-overs can happen in the blink of an eye."According to a CPSC survey, 80 percent are aware that furniture can tip over, but just 47 percent say they have their TV anchors, and 55 percent say they have anchored furniture in their home.The CSPC offers parents the following tips:To protect children from a tip-over incident, follow these safety tips in any home where children live or visit:Anchor TVs and furniture, such as bookcases and dressers, securely to the wall.Always place TVs on a sturdy, low base, and push the TV back as far as possible, particularly if anchoring is not possible.Avoid displaying or storing items, such as toys and remotes, in places where kids might be tempted to climb up to reach for them.Store heavier items on lower shelves, or in lower drawers.If purchasing a new TV, consider recycling older ones not currently in use. Homeowners in City Heights say the neighborhood isn't keeping up with the cost of living. While home prices are on the rise, development plans have come to a halt. Paul Smith is trying to transform City Heights. "They're still equating it to a high crime area or a place not worth investing in," said Smith. Like everywhere else in San Diego, the cost of living there is going up. "People are taking advantage of a housing shortage right now," said Smith. "So they can demand top dollar for their house. Because someone's willing to pay for it."He's been remodeling his home for the past 18 months. Many of his neighbors are doing the same. "We're seeing numbers in the 0's range now, 0, and I'd say probably five years ago you could buy a house for under 0,000."But, he says businesses in the area aren't adapting to the change. "It's constantly having to go over to North Park to look for services or South Park, outside the community."While some shops are moving in, he says it's simply not enough. "New businesses are seeming to move in, but there isn't a massive influx of investments like you're seeing in North Park and other areas," said Smith. "So we're seeing a lot of vacancies here."Those businesses would help build an even stronger community. "I don't always want to have to leave my neighborhood and to another area just to go get groceries, or go to a restaurant to eat," said Smith. For him, it can't come soon enough. "Change kind of is coming, but more needs to happen."The city did work on a redevelopment project in City Heights several years ago. Harris County, Texas Sheriff's deputies in Houston were forced to shut down an ATM in Houston on Sunday night after a huge crowd had gathered to take advantage of the machine dispersing 0 bills instead of bills, the Houston Chronicle reported. Rather than trying to recoup its losses, Bank of America announced that it would not force those who were able to snag the 0 bills to repay. “This was an incident at a single ATM in Houston caused when a vendor incorrectly loaded 0 bills in place of bills,” Bank of America said in a statement to the Chronicle. “We have resolved the matter. Customers will be able to keep the additional money dispensed.”KPRC-TV said that the crowd converged on the Houston ATM Sunday night after a man posted on social media, boasting about the transaction. KPRC added that a few fights took place near the ATM, which prompted deputies to shut down the ATM. Bank of America did not say how many customers profited off of the ATM.   1020
