(KGTV) - Police are asking the public's help to identify a man suspected of trying to lure a child away from her mother at a North County Walmart.Oceanside Police said the incident occurred on Sept. 6 after a juvenile female and her mom shopping at the Walmart location at 705 College Boulevard reported a stolen cell phone.Police said security footage showed a man following the pair around the store and taking the juvenile's cell phone from their cart when they were not looking. The mother and daughter reported the phone stolen to security, according to police."Shortly after the girl and her mom reported the lost phone to security, the male started conversing with the juvenile and stated he had her phone in his vehicle," Bussey said.The man started talking with the juvenile, police said, and stated he had her cell phone in his vehicle, a white hatchback, possibly a Hyundai Elantra GT."The male was possibly attempting to lure the juvenile to his vehicle to retrieve the phone," OPD said in a release."I watch really closely. I've got a younger guy so he stays attached to my hip; thank goodness but this is gonna make me even more vigilant. OCEAN BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) — Every summer, a unique, orange ball can be seen bobbing on the ocean's horizon just off the shore of Ocean Beach.The "David Buoy" was placed off Ocean Beach pier last week, heralding in a summer tradition for the beach town.The buoy is one of several deployed by San Diego lifeguards between North Pacific Beach and Ocean Beach every year for lifeguards to utilize as a workout destination. Rick Strobel and James Murphy, a junior lifeguard program director, helped to standardize the use of buoys every summer for workout programs. In Ocean Beach, a group of Obecians asked Strobel about the buoy and started to swim out to it themselves, Strobel told 10News."It became a topic of discussion, 'did you swim the buoy today,'" Strobel said. "They were also big David Bowie fans and the named it 'David Buoy.'"Strobel says the following year, the group gave him a David Bowie sticker and asked him to place it on the buoy before it was set. "They signed the buoy, put messages of support for the lifeguards and stickers on it. It was great."Last summer, Strobel says the buoy was stolen from storage. But it didn't stop the buoy fans. Mostly lifeguards and junior lifeguards but swim teams water polo teams and triathletes as well," Strobel said. "'David Buoy' has been embraced by the OB community and we as lifeguards really appreciate the support."Strobel says swimmers should always check with a lifeguard before swimming out to any buoys and swim when lifeguards are on duty. (KGTV) - The Oceanside Police Department asked for the public’s help Friday to find a missing man.Richard Teller, 80, was last seen at his home Thursday night at 10 pm.Police said Teller suffers from health conditions that require medication, which he does not have with him.Teller is believed to be driving a black 2006 Cadillac CTS with a California license plate of 5YDG829.Police said Teller is white, 5’9”, 190 pounds, with short gray hair and hazel eyes.Anyone who sees him is asked to call Oceanside Police at 760-435-4900. 556

On Monday, the US House voted in favor of a 0 billion stimulus package that includes funds for the travel industry. Early in the pandemic, airlines were able to retain many employees during the spring in summer with assistance from the federal government as air travel has been cut by over 50% since March. That funding ran out on September 30.The stimulus provides billion through the Payroll Support Program. The program will help airlines pay workers and provide benefits for industry workers through the end of March. On Friday morning, a truck pulled up outside Heim Elementary School in Williamsville to collect boxes full of shoes for the Nicaragua Mission Project.The project has been collecting supplies for people in Nicaragua for more than a decade. Based in East Amherst, it works with volunteers from local schools and churches to fill boxes with donations and send them from New York to Nicaragua.Heim Elementary School has been working with the project for years, and one fourth grader has been a part of the project for most of his life. Luke Avery started collecting shoes in kindergarten. He even goes to other schools and daycares to pick up donations. Luke has collected more than 3,000 pairs of shoes over the years. He was there again Friday morning to donate more."I feel like other kids can go for school because of kids at my school," Luke said."This is not from me, this is from other children," the project's organizer, Ann Marie Zon said. "And they always feel another kid feeling for them is more special than that shoes.
