SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) - Surveillace video shows thieves stuffing a car after breaking into a popular Santee restaurant hit hard by the pandemic and a recent tragedy.Every time restaurant owner Maria Dellarsina looks at the surveillance video she gets anxious."All kinds of emotions. I feel angry, and I feel sad," said Dellarsina. The roller coaster of emotions began after a Thanksgiving morning break-in. The 43-year old Jimmy's Restaurant of Santee was ransacked by thieves. The HVAC access on the roof is the likely entry point.Video shows three people stuffing items into their car, as they helped themselves to whatever they wanted."They took food, liquor, checks, cash, laptop computer, and sports memorabilia," said Dellarsina. The items stolen were just part of the loss. The thieves also cut the power and left the refrigerators open, so all the food had to be tossed."When I saw food going into the trash is when I broke down," said Dellarsina. The total loss more than ,000.The restaurant had to be shut down for a few days, including the day after Thanksgiving, their busiest day of the year."One thing after another ... devastation," said Dellarsina.Beginning in March, restaurant was shut down for months during the pandemic. In May, her husband and co-owner John, passed away from lung cancer."I didn't know if I wanted to open again. We did it. I got my strength back to continue his legacy, but it's hard on us.So far, the pandemic has slashed revenues by more than 60%. The burglary has served up more pain, but Dellarsina vows to continue."It's been very rough, but this is not going to stop us," said Dellarsina. The restaurant is insured, but it's not clear how much will be covered.Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 888-580-8477. 1783

SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) --  A man is in the hospital tonight after trying to save his dogs in an apartment fire. The Santee Villas Apartments were roaring in flames Thursday night. One of the residents headed directly into the danger zone trying to save his two chihuahua. Melanie Jaracz watched in horror as her neighbor risked his life climbing through a window."They busted out the windows to that," said Jaracz. "He tried climbing through that and they kept dragging him back. Nobody could get him to come out because he was so worried about his animals."Santee fire crews say it started in a bottom unit and quickly spread to three others around it. First responders tried to revive one of the dogs but it was too late. The man was taken to the hospital to be treated for burns and smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is under investigation.  887

SAN RAMON, Calif. (AP) — Pacific Gas and Electric is promising regulators that it has learned from its mishandling of deliberate blackouts and won't disrupt as many people’s lives during the pandemic this year. The utility again expects to rely on outages to prevent its outdated grid from starting deadly fires. The contrite pledge came Thursday during a California Public Utilities Commission hearing. PG&E's chief regulator is trying to avoid a repeat of last autumn's bungled blackouts that inconvenienced and infuriated more than 2 million Northern Californians. A PG&E executive predicted this year's expected blackouts will affect far fewer customers and won't last nearly as long. 704

School is back in session at Ohio State University. However, more than 200 students aren't returning to the classroom just yet after they were suspended for violating the school's new coronavirus pandemic policy.Ohio State leaders say 228 students broke campus guidelines about social gatherings since returning to campus.Students began moving back to the Columbus campus on Aug. 19. Upon their return, the university told students they needed to wear masks, practice social distancing and limit their get-togethers to no more than 10 people. There's no word on how long the students' suspensions will last, but school leaders hope it will show others how serious they are about controlling the spread of COVID-19 on campus.Several other large universities across the country have been forced to suspend classes after large outbreaks of the virus on campus. Notre Dame shifted to remote learning after 150 students tested positive for COVID-19 after a week on campus. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill made a similar shift after 130 students tested positive for the virus after a week of classes. Also last, school administrators at Syracuse University admonished a group of students for holding a large gathering on the school's quad, adding that the even may have already derailed plans for in-person learning. 1332
