A Howard Johnson motel room was covered with so much dog feces and urine, a special crew wearing protective clothing had to be called in to clean and sanitize the room.It was those conditions Perkins Township, Ohio police say a mother and her 3-year-old year son were living in for a month."There was liquid urine and feces seeping from underneath the door," said Perkins Township Assistant Chief Vince Donald.Someone called the Erie County dog warden to check on the condition of dogs in the room. When the warden and police entered the room, they said the walls, floors and bedding were covered in dog feces. The bathroom had three inches of dog urine and feces on the floor. The boy was also covered in dog feces.Police contacted Erie County Children Services who had the child checked out at the hospital, then placed with a family member,The boy's mother, Dezeray Powell, 21, was arrested for animal cruelty and child endangering."The child had feces on his feet and clothes,” Donald said.Powell had been keeping three Great Danes inside the motel rooms small bathroom. The dogs were so malnourished their ribs were showing, authorities said.Erie County Dog Warden Barb Knapp said the dogs are getting fresh food and water and will be nursed back to health. The owner of the hotel said Powell would never let him in the room."We didn't know what was going on in the room, because she never let me in the room," Raghbir Virk said."It was pretty heartbreaking because the child, they don't have a choice. You as an adult make that choice, so that child doesn't have a choice to live in that environment," Donald said.Powell is scheduled to be arraigned in court April 10. The Great Danes will eventually be put up for adoption, but that’s months down the road because they have to rehabilitated. 1888

A fourth-grade teacher in Florida was arrested on Saturday after deputies found a 4-year-old in the woman's custody wandering alone outside, the Orlando Sentinel reported. The Polk County, Florida Sheriff's Office said that the boy was discovered at 7:30 a.m. Saturday crying and asking for help. The boy was only wearing a t-shirt and underwear. The teacher, 26-year-old Marsha Dolce, claimed she was helping a friend with a broken down car when she left the child at home. But deputies found marijuana and a grinder on the kitchen counter, the Sentinel reported. When deputies pressed Dolce, she admitted that she had lied, and visited someone she knew had marijuana while the boy was sleeping. Dolce was charged with negligent child abuse, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia."This is not what we expect from a person in a position of public trust,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said in a statement to the Sentinel. “To think about this poor scared child crying in the street, not knowing where mom was — it is just a shame and should not have happened."Dolce was reportedly only a teacher for three months before her arrest.  1209

A federal judge has ruled in favor of a group of adult entertainers who claimed their rights were violated when police raided San Diego strip club where they worked. An attorney for the women said the ruling essentially finds that the city's municipal code, which allows for inspections of police regulated businesses, violated the dancer's First Amendment rights. But the judge stopped short of ruling on the claim that the city also violated the Fourth Amendment on unreasonable searches and seizures. The San Diego City Attorney's office told 10News it's reviewing the ruling at this time and had no further comment. The dancers are also seeking damages, which their attorney says will be decided when the matter goes to trial, but a date hasn't been set.  797

A dentist in New York says she's been seeing patients more than ever since the coronavirus pandemic began. She says it has nothing to do with anyone being sick, but with what she calls the "epidemic of cracked teeth."Prosthodontist Tammy Chen detailed that coronavirus-related stress leads people to clench and grind their teeth in a New York Times article."Teeth are naturally brittle, and everyone has tiny fissures in their teeth from chewing, grinding, and everyday use," Chen wrote. "They can take only so much trauma before they eventually break."Chen also attributed a lack of sleep and how people sit while working from home as to why she's seeing more patients in her dentist chair."If you're wondering why a dentist cares about ergonomics, the simple truth is that nerves in your neck and shoulder muscles lead into the temporomandibular joint, or TMJ, which connects the jawbone to the skull," Chen stated in the NYT piece. "Poor posture during the day can translate into a grinding problem at night."Chen recommends being mindful of your top and bottom teeth touching each other. The only time they should be doing that, Chen said, is while eating. She also said to wear a nightguard or retainer during the day, setting up a proper space to work and moving around during your eight or 9-hour workday. 1319

A church in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area is confronting a massive COVID-19 outbreak.According to the Mecklenburg County Public Health, there have been 68 confirmed COVID-19 cases potentially connected with convocation events held at the United House of Prayer For All People. The events were held from October 4 to 11.Among the 68 confirmed cases, there have been four hospitalizations and two fatalities. Six of the confirmed cases were among residents of an assisted living facility. In response, public health officials have been attempting to conduct contact tracing to identify other possible cases. As of Wednesday, there were 94 close contacts that public health officials were attempting to reach.Complicating matters, Deputy Health Director Dr. Raynard Washington said that several attendees traveled from abroad.Churches have been a concern for public health officials since the start of the pandemic, prompting many religious institutions to have online or outdoor services amid the pandemic.Another major church-related outbreak was reported in Ohio during the summer. Fifty-three attendees became infected with the coronavirus in July prompting concern from Gov. Mike DeWine.Early in the pandemic in March, according to the CDC, 53 members of a Skagit County, Washington, church choir who participated in a March 10 practice had a confirmed or probably case of the coronavirus.“The act of singing, itself, might have contributed to transmission through emission of aerosols, which is affected by loudness of vocalization,” the CDC said. 1563
