FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Caleb Lowman says he was forced to use his shotgun on his neighbor's three dogs when they escaped their cage and began attacking his goats. “When I came out, I had the shotgun with me with the hopes it wouldn’t have to be used,” Lowman said. Lowman says this isn't the first time the dogs have gotten out and been aggressive. On last Monday, the dogs got out of their fence and attacked the goats in his yard. Photos show the goats suffered bite marks up and down their neck and legs.However, one of the dogs' owners, Jake Hutto, claims his pets have never been aggressive. “I don’t understand how it’s possible to shoot three dogs in the head, to blow their face off," Hutto said.Lowman's family called Animal Control after last week's incident and says they safely returned all three dogs to the neighbors. Five days later, Lowman says it happened again — this time in front of his 13-year-old daughter, Chloe. “I had to go outside and watch basically my babies be attacked by dogs," said Chloe. Lowman says despite his family's efforts, the dogs killed two of the goats. That's when he pulled out his shotgun and killed all three dogs. Hutto came home to find that Animal Control had left his pets in three large trash bags.“There’s nothing more you can do, nothing’s going to bring them back,” Hutto said. Records show several citations had been issued from Animal Control to the dog owners' household. But with two goats and three dogs now gone, Lowman says this isn't what he wanted. "This time it was our goats, Monday it was our goats; if we let that happen again that could have been my children," he said. "It didn’t need to be this way if they just secured their dogs."A spokesperson for Animal Control says this is an active investigation. Lowman claims when he put in his final statement today at Animal Control, he was told two citations would be issued against the dog owners. He says the citations are for dogs menacing and harassing livestock and running at large.  2160

For an outgoing, two-term Republican governor who only two years ago won the Ohio presidential primary, a final state GOP fundraiser should be almost a victory lap, a chance to reflect on the last eight years.But when the GOP faithful gather in Columbus on Friday, Gov. John Kasich won't be there.That is due in large part to the fact that the guest of honor will be the man who has emerged as Kasich's main political rival, President Donald Trump.Kasich was one of the few Republicans not to endorse Trump in 2016 general election and has remained one of his staunchest policy critics since Trump took office. Former prisoners are helping former prisoners break in to college courses.  The Urban Scholars Union is a relatively new organization created by ex-cons for ex-cons looking to better themselves through education. USU’s President Cesar Garcia said they started 18 months ago at San Diego City College to help “justice impacted” students succeed. “[We want to] empower them and motivate them to be productive members of society,” said Garcia. “We’re not monsters that they make us out to feel and make us out to be,” said San Diego City College student Ryan Rising. “We’re humans that made poor choices.” Rising spent 15 years behind bars for carjacking and attempted extortion but will matriculate to Cal Berkley on a scholarship after earning his Associate’s at City.“I’m super proud of myself,” he said. Garcia, who served seven years for a list of crimes, said the USU provides a space for former prisoners to get help, guidance, and support. The organization recently expanded to Southwestern College and is working on helping students at Mesa and Grossmont Colleges. USU also recently received its largest donation to date.  Current prisoners at Donovan Correctional in Otay Mesa donated ,000 to USU for scholarships and grants for former prisoners. “It just goes to show you how we do look out for each other,” said Garcia. “We just need go out and advocate to erase all these stigmas,” said Rising. 1470

Former FBI Director James Comey said Sunday that he would sit for a private deposition with House Republicans after filing a legal challenge to force a public hearing."Grateful for a fair hearing from judge. "So will sit in the dark, but Republicans agree I'm free to talk when done and transcript released in 24 hours. This is the closest I can get to public testimony."House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, a Virginia Republican, told Fox News on Sunday morning that he expected Comey to sit privately for an interview."We'll await it actually happening, but that is what I believe will happen," Goodlatte said.Comey also moved on Sunday to withdraw his motion to quash the congressional subpoena and said the hearing scheduled for Monday morning on the matter does not need to happen.Comey's attorney, David Kelley, told CNN that the former FBI director has agreed to sit for a voluntary interview on Friday under a set of conditions.As Comey indicated in his tweet, he will receive a transcript of his testimony and will be free to make public all or part of the transcript as well as any of the questions asked during the interview, Kelley said.
