Holiday parties are steadily making a comeback.During the last recession when people were getting laid off, businesses cut back. About 76% of human resources representatives polled said their company was having a holiday party this year. That's up about 7% from last year.A new survey form career website Monster found 60% of employees look forward to holiday parties. “It’s not a jail sentence,” said Monster career expert Vick Salemi. “It should be a fun party that you keep the professional scope top of mind.”Salemi says if you're considering skipping, instead treat it like a meeting. Go early and take advantage of face time with colleagues or bosses you don't normally get to interact with.“Think of it like I’m going to come prepared with two or three of my top wins and accomplishments this past year and I’m going to humble brag my way when I talk to my boss and my boss’ boss,” said Salemi.One thing you don't want to do is overindulge on alcohol if it's being served.About 14% of employees said they had regrets about drinking too much at a holiday party.Salemi says here's how you can recover:“You can just say I apologize if I offended anyone or I drank way too much I don’t remember much of the night. From flooding to tornadoes, a deadly storm system blew through parts of the country over the weekend.At least eight people are dead, including three children, after severe weather slammed the south.Lily Pierce survived a tornado in Mississippi, after she took cover for three hours inside a storm shelter.“All the sudden, you’re crashing on the floor crying, praying it’s not you,” Pierce told TV station WBMA.At least 18 tornadoes hit four states. Two children died, when a tree fell on their car during a tornado outbreak in Texas.“You can't imagine that happening. I would never think of that, you know, a tree hitting a car while you're going down the road, so it was very upsetting,” said neighbor Joe Spangler.The children’s mother ran to Spangler’s house. begging for help.“She was like 'help me, help me,' so I pulled her in the house, and I saw down the road that her husband was down there, so I ran down there to see what was going on,” Spangler told TV stations KTRE. “When I got down there, I mean, I saw the size of the tree and how it was on the car. For the fourth time in just over a week, losses by the Dow Jones Industrial Average triggered a circuit-breaker.The Dow had dropped 7 percent by early afternoon Wednesday, and trading was halted for 15 minutes.At the time of the trading halt, the Dow had fallen below where it had been when President Donald Trump was inaugurated in January 2017.The drop came after futures fell sharply overnight, signaling a tough day ahead for markets.By the end of the day, the Dow leveled off, closing down 6.3% for the day, losing 1,333 points from yesterday's totals. The Dow closed below, 20,000 points for the first time in more than three years. The Dow Jones Industrial Average has fallen 28 percent since hitting its all-time high in February.On Tuesday, the Dow recovered slightly from historic losses on Monday on the back of President Donald Trump's talk of a stimulus plan.
