MOSCOW, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Russia will give humanitarian aid to quake-stricken China, a source at the Emergency Situations Ministry told Russian media on Friday."Under the Russian president's order, the ministry will deliver tents, blankets, diesel generators and food to China, about 40 tons of cargo in total," the ministry said, quoted by the Itar- Tass news agency.The flight is scheduled for Saturday, the source said."An Ilyushin Il-76 cargo plane of the ministry will bring the aid to the Qinghai province, which sustained the heaviest damage in the recent quake," the ministry said.Another plane will bring more aid to China in the near future.Last Wednesday, a 7.1-magnitude earthquake rocked the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yushu, in Qinghai province, killing over 2,000 people and injuring 10,000 others.

HONG KONG, April 23 (Xinhua) -- The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region held Friday a grand funeral ceremony to say goodbye to well-known businessman Tsui Tsin-tong, who was also a noted social activist, philanthropist and a close friend to the Communist Party of China.Tsui was also a member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee before he died of an illness on April 2 this year in the Chinese capital of Beijing at the age of 69.Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC, the country's top advisory body, and Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping had both sent messages of condolences to Tsui's family after Tsui's death.In their messages of condolences, Jia and Xi praised Tsui for his great contributions to Hong Kong's stable transition, smooth handover from Britain to China and Hong Kong's lasting prosperity, as well as Tsui's contributions to Chinese mainland's reform-and- opening-up drive and modernization.Tsui's funeral ceremony was held at Hong Kong's landmark Convention and Exhibition Center in the day. DAR ES SALAAM, May 5 (Xinhua) -- "China-Africa new strategic partnership has currently reached a new level, however there is still a necessity for the partnership to be expanded and strengthened as the situation is developing," Liu Guijin, special envoy of the Chinese government on African affairs, told Xinhua here on Wednesday ahead of the plenary session of the 20th World Economic Forum on Africa.Liu said that the "eight new measures" announced by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao at the fourth ministerial meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) held in the Egypt in November pointed out the favorable direction in the next three years to enhance China-Africa cooperation."First, expand the current China-Africa economic and trade cooperation, which has achieved great progress in recent years. The bilateral trade volume surpassed 106.8 billion U.S. dollars in 2008. GUANGZHOU, April 18 (Xinhua) -- China's trade volume will reach 5.3 trillion U.S. dollars by the year 2020, Li Gang, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation under the Ministry of Commerce, said Sunday.Li made the remakes at the ongoing 107th China Import and Export Fair, the country's largest trade fair, held in the southern city of Guangzhou.According to Li, China's merchandise imports and exports will hit 4.3 trillion U.S. dollars in 2020.Merchandise exports will top other countries and be 2.4 trillion U.S. dollars in 2020, 10.1 percent of the world total.Imports will reach 1.9 trillion U.S. dollars and rank second largest, accounting for 8.2 percent of the world total.Weighed down by the global financial crisis, the nation's foreign trade recorded a 13.9 percent year-on-year decline to 2.2 trillion U.S. dollars in 2009, with merchandise exports of 1.2 trillion U.S. dollars and imports of 1 trillion U.S. dollars.In the first quarter, foreign trade began to grow again, jumping 44.1 percent to 617.85 billion U.S. dollars, according to customs data.
